We waited about an hour and a half to be seated on 10/15/17, my birthday. There are always long lines and long waits here on weekends, but a competent hostess or host will give a reasonable estimate of wait times. At first giving our name we were told ā20 minutesā. We asked again after 20 minutes and now it was another ā20 minutesā. So we waited another 20 plus. We return again, this time, excuses about people sitting too long because of the weather... another ā15 minutesā now. We wait and wait and wait. We ask again, now itās maybe ANOTHER 10-15 minutes. Are you kidding? We wait again at least another 15-20. Then the hostess starts giving us, and everyone waiting some attitude. Not so great. We finally sit down. The hostess with the ātude seats us bit doesnāt offer us drinks as she did other tables. Then we wait for the server. As we watch other tables, seated after us, have their drink order taken by our server. We wait another 5+min and finally start staring the hostess and server down. Drink and food order was taken. Coffees all around. Not too long after the coffees arrive and the server breaks a cardinal rule of serving: grasping the mug by the top lip, placing his unclean hands right where my lips need to go. Not hygienic. Yes, the food is fresh, home-made and tasty but we felt like we being taken for granted and taken advantage of on this occasion. A hostess absolutely should know when wait times are 90 minutes and not tell...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Main Street Bistro and was pleasantly surprised; it was a lot of fun. The atmosphere was a perfect mix of college vibes and a nostalgic hometown feel.
The interior was dimly lit but full windows up front bring the outside in, and older and a bit worn but that adds to the charm IMO. The energy of the lively staff and full age range of diners kept the atmosphere active and busy even arriving for a late lunch. The service was laid back but attentive and the prices were perfect for a college student not unlike our server and the rest of the staff. I ordered the classic BLT sandwich and fries, and my SO ordered the Turkey Club which were both delicious. Plenty of menu options that you would find at a quality diner or coffee shop but taste better.
Plus, the walls were adorned with memorabilia from the past fifty-plus years, concert posters, local kids baseball teams, and local New Paltz artifacts, adding to the great hometown feel. The art is awesome and totally unexpected. Very cool that the bistro does this for local artists.
I would definitely recommend Main Street Bistro for a great meal and a memorable experience. Take quarters if you are going to park outside; the meters are not digital and only take cash...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was our first stop with a group of six on a Friday afternoon during a weekend trip to New Paltz back in September. Right in the "downtown" area, this is one of the town's better known spots (or at least I assume so since it came up as a suggestion everywhere I looked). There was a little bit of a wait to get a table for 6, but overall we were seated in a decent time.
The food is exactly what you would expect, low price and high quantity. Quality is somewhere mid-range, I would say, but definitely on the higher end of diner food. The menu is HUGE (it's basically a novel) and you could probably spend all day deciding on something. They have all the typical breakfast, brunch and lunch staples that you would imagine.
After much deliberation, I got The Trailblazer which is: two poached eggs, crab cakes, andouille sausage & tomato on an english muffin topped with a chipotle & roasted red pepper hollandaise & scallions. Served with home fries. I was pleasantly surprised that the crab cakes were not too fishy-tasting, which in my opinion, means that it probably good quality crab. The eggs were overcooked for this type of dish (yolks fully cooked) and they offered to re-do it, but for the sake of not wasting food I just decided...
