Pegasus Footwear — Local services in Town of New Paltz

Simply the BEST shoe store this side of anywhere! Honestly I wish all stores were this well run. There are 3 locations, I have been to all 3 in the last several years.. my go to is New Paltz. It is an hour drive to get there but it’s an adventure, well worth it… only place I buy shoes. Through the years their staff has changed yet everyone is STELLAR in friendliness, product knowledge, eagerness to assist you (yes!! Like a personal shopper 🤩) and professional…such a pleasure! I typically am there for a few hours looking, learning and trying stuff on as there are so many options to choose from…this past Saturday was no exception. With that said, what made it such a great experience was our sales-footwear person extraordinaire Grace! She was awesome, super knowledgeable, funny, friendly, attentive, patient, kind, energetic… my husband and I truly enjoyed our shopping experience with Grace. Feeling inspired to “get back into shape,” and recognizing that the collapsed Crocs I’ve been schlubbing around in since my daughter’s birth two years ago were contributing to achy middle-age-feel, I decided to buy some quality shoes. And I decided to shop IRL so I might actually try a few pairs on, instead of hoping that I guess the right size and that the recommendations I’ve gotten from family and friends would work for me. I’m glad I did! Anna provided a simple and clear primer on what we’re buying when we buy running shoes. She offered a few options—all were good, but I wound up buying one that was a few bucks cheaper than the brand I’d asked for when I walked in, and I think her guidance was sound, given my feet and ankles and tendency to wear things hard. Truly top notch customer service. Plus, online commerce contributes to a larger societal devolutionary drift, but that’s a different conversation. For me Pegasus is the other cornerstone of New Paltz. They carry the best quality footwear and I love how they support the community by being a part of the local schools discount card program.

The other day my experience was even better than usual. I was waffling between sizes and styles so the staff member that had greeted me so pleasantly when I entered asked if I would like to have my foot measured to provide the best fit. I watched as she thoroughly checked several aspects while having me sit and then stand. Then she explained the difference between my feet and made a recommendation for what size for which style might be best.

She then proceeded to bring me several pair of boots and even thicker socks to get an better idea of how each would feel with them on!
