Cardinali Bakery & Pastry Shop — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

This was my first time at Cardinali bakery. It was okay, but I was expecting more. I bought prepackaged Christmas cookies, cannoli and a red velvet cake. The cake was pretty good and nicely decorated, but my husband didn't care for it. To be fair, he was never a big red velvet kind of guy and this cake did not win him over. The cookies were nothing special. I'm not sure if they were lacking in flavor for my taste or if I just didn't like the filling in some of the cookies, but either way, I would not buy them again. I usually love the jam filled, chocolate tipped cookies, but the jam just didn't taste great to me. Maybe the individually sold cookies are better. The bakery is small and I didn't see a great selection of cakes and mini cakes. I've been to a few Italian bakeries in Queens and they offer an impressive selection of mini cakes, full cakes and pastries, that taste out of this world. Maybe the selection was limited because it was a couple of days before Christmas, but I can't say for sure. My husband loves cannoli, but he wasn't too impressed with these cannoli. The filling was just okay. My last issue is that they should dust the ceiling fan and make sure display cabinets are pristine. I don't want to be overly harsh or unfair, so I may try them again during a less busy time to see...

We ordered a tres leches cake, we'd have a tres leches previously so I know tres leches is very wet, this one ordered was desert dry, my wife Spock to Ruth she said bring the cake back so my wife did brought it back Friday, Sunday one of the front staff called us saying that they will Not refound my $73.76 nor give us another cake so I spoke with Gilberto one of the bakers and he said that when they bake a cake 3 of them (bakers) make sure the cake is right and my cake was made correctly in other words he said 3 of them know that my cake is right and I'm wrong and he admitted the part of the cake that they checked was wet and the other part of the cake that we did cut at home was dry so half of the cake was 3 leches? Anyway this bakery don't practice the saying that the costumer is right, no if the 3 bakers are right me the costumer I'm wrong, meanwhile they ruined my party baking a wrong cake. Accidentally found gem--fabulous in every way! The day before Easter, I tried to pick up a lemon meringue pie that I thought I ordered there. I actually ordered it from another bakery. The owner could not have been nicer to me despite my annoyed demeanor and him believing I likely had the wrong place. He made the pie just for me and delivered it to my house an hour and a half later. Everything looked and smelled incredibly delicious; and, their kindness went above and beyond. It was obvious to me that they care about their products and their customers very much. I sent my son there for a fruit tart the next day. It was exceptional. I have been there since and plan to go there often although it is not local for me. The bread has that special crisped finish that only happens when baked in a brick oven.
