Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3.5 Value: 2 Food: 3
$250 (tip) 1 app, 2 entrees, and 2 deserts
Summary: You’d be happy if you are ok paying for over-extensive service, the brand/reputation, and consistent above par food. It’s difficult to find service at this level outside fine dining in Manhattan, especially in the locale. But if you’re a local; you should be able to find better food. Atmosphere felt more like a business dinner than a date (but that’s just me).
Came here on Christmas Day so I will give them props for being open. First you valet then walk in and are immediately greeted by stellar service and amazing, even seasonal decor. The music I feel is a bit louder than it should be. They have a no picture policy and berated a customer for it.
I feel like embedded in the cost is that it’s mimicking it’s NYC downtown original name, branding, and pricing, so you’ll get a consistent “branded” experience, on the back of its reputation. Has a very “old guard” kind of vibe to the place. Otherwise I don’t think the restaurant would stand on it’s own two legs. It makes sense that the clientele is older folk in their 45s+.
The food is good but I wouldn’t say it’s mind-blowing, where it warrants its price. Very expensive Italian food I wouldn’t come back at this price point, you can find equally delicious food if not better at a much lower price. For a local run of the mill spot you’re paying resort prices and still getting served tap water.
QOL complaints: Service was immaculate throughout, but it was difficult to flag down anyone for the check. I had leftover residue on the handle of my knife. Bathroom is a bit too small for a restaurant of this...
Read moreFood is very expensive, which isn't a problem per se. But my problem is that it's not good enough for the price. For example, they have a Cacio E Pepe Risotto for 32$. You are talking about Arborio rice, parmesan and pepper. A dish costing ~4$ to make and the portion is by no means big. Most recently I went with a group of 4 people. We got 2 apps for the table, two pastas for the table, an entree each and 3 glasses of wine each (12 total). The bill was 568$. I don't mind dropping 700$ on an excellent meal but it just fell short. The appetizers were excellent. The pasta was good. But most of the entrees were on the dry side with a mediocre flavor. I honestly feel that I could go to any other high end Italian restaurant, spend significantly less, and have a much better experience.
My biggest issue is with the wine pouring. They free pour all of their wine, which is fine if they are consistent but they are very far off from consistent and well under the standard 5-6 oz pour. So much so that when they pour a round, you can easily see a LARGE disparity in the amount per glass. Things like this I find frustrating. At 18$ a glass for their house wine, they should be pouring a consistent, sufficient amount. It gives you the feeling that despite you spending a large amount of money there, they feel the need to squeeze just a little more value out of you by shorting you on wine. I can't rationalize this.
The atmosphere is nice. Very low lighting and an authentic old world Italy feel. The wait staff is very professional and clearly trained well with the exception of their wine pours. It's not uncommon to see Bentley's, RR's, and other extreme luxory cars but I just don't see the hype behind this place. This was my third time there and in a price vs experience comparison, it just doesn't...
Read more1 review 1.0 star rating 5/6/2016 Written by Cyrus Gavriel I was appalled by the service or lack of by the so-called captain. Everything started off great with the appetizers and drinks. Then we got our main dishes. I rarely ever order chicken, I usually go for seafood when I eat out but I had it the night before, so I went for the chicken dish. They were extremely large dry chunks of chicken with not much taste. It was quite dissappointing. The so-called captain never came around and I ate about half my dish. When our waiter came around to collect plates I had told him about the chicken and he apologized and told me he would let the captain know. 20 minutes later we received the check and we asked him about the captain and he was surprised that he never came by. He took the check to the captain and the captain finally came over and asked me what was wrong. I repeated everything to him and he had the nerve to ask me if I ate the chicken? and then he asked me what I wanted to do? I have been dining out at fine restaurants for over 20 years and have never had such an imbocil ask me such questions. That is so insulting as to imply that I am looking for a free meal. I told him I didnt want anything from him and he gave me the check intact. He didnt even take off the coffee. Over $250 check. I was disgusted! I couldnt believe my ten year old sons reaction telling me that the captain didnt care about my experience he just cared about the money. That is so true. I will never go back to this place and wouldnt recommend it to anyone. The owner should fire that imbocil of a so-called captain that he has...
