Before I begin, I love this place and it is a solid four stars. But, the stars are my rating and this is my complaint box, so if you are wondering why I gave it four stars and then complained so much, it is just because this is the complaining box. So without further adu, here is my review. I have visited this place on a number of occasions, and it still surprises me. I have received service both good and bad (good more than bad) and have had both larger and smaller portions in a fluctuating order. I love the food served here, but unfortunately the portions are not what they used to be. The turkey (for example) used to take up the whole plate and now it is half and half with the mashed potatoes. Even the good deal of a kids meal has slowly become just a normally priced meal. On the other hand their jello is delicious, the service is quick and above average, and I love the atmosphere of this deli. I really wish that the portions were what they used to be. Otherwise again it is a very clean restaurant and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a traditional deli style meal. See...
Read moreUpon entering I explained they wanted to sit down. Was told to go to the back of the restaurant and wait for the waitress . Then after the waitress came to me I said I wanted to order from the deli. Apparently I wouldn’t be able to sit down unless it was by the windows. I found this rather confusing. No big deal . I ordered from the deli a half sandwich chicken salad and a chicken noodle soup & a water. After standing for quite some time apparently my food was ready but nobody acknowledged that as it was put off to the side in a paper bag. The total came to $19.98. Now I should add that they gave me a bottled water which was not what I was expecting. I can only hope that the bottle water was part of that $20 charge.Still It seems rather overpriced even for Long Island. The sandwich was quite tasty but the soup was very lackluster. The soup was literally broth and noodles and nothing else. Anyways my overall impression of the experience I think warrants a two star rating, nothing better. Next time I’m in the area I’ll just go to the...
Read moreI am consistently disappointed by Ben's. The reason is because every time I come here, some new aspect of their menu is revealed as shady. Two examples: I ordered a chicken noodle soup at the Mineola location. When my soup came there wasn't an ounce of chicken in the soup. I pointed this out to the manager who told me, "yes, chicken is only put in the Grandma's Soup." What is chicken noodle soup if not CHICKEN and NOODLES in a SOUP? Today, I went to the Commack location and ordered roast beef from the kid's menu. I was told it was only for 10 and under, I affirmed that it was indeed a smaller portion for the cheaper price. Hope acted like this was the most absurd question and kept pressing, "it's designed for kids, so that parents will come and bring their kids." Obviously, but what about normal adults who want to pay less and receive less? It isn't any discount. It's half the portion for half the price. There's no reason anyone with any business sense would keep this from being ordered. Too many unexpected experiences to keep me...
