Where do I begin? I've been a relatively frequent customer here over the last few months. Although I've never been much of a coffee drinker these past few years (I'm a "recovering" caffeine addict!), I occasionally like to treat myself to a drink of God's sweet nectar. Upon much contemplation I have decided to leave a review of Massapequa Perk because my last experience was so sensational and electrifying that I had to write a review to let people know about the place.
My Monday started like any other common Monday for me. The alarm clock went off at 7:00 a.m. and I rolled out of bed. I had been dreading this particular Monday for a few weeks now because I had a huge business proposal I was pitching to potential business partners. I had been psyching myself out all weekend long and by the time Monday came I was a nervous wreck. The business pitch was scheduled for 2:44 p.m. (A peculiar time I know, but I like to make myself memorable to my future business associates). To try and calm my nerves a little bit after lunch I decided to stop by Massapequa Perk to get a "sweet treat" drink to pump myself up.
When I walked into the shop I immediately smelled the beautiful aroma of coffee. It brought me back to the days when I was a kid and my dad would bring out his old translucent percolator and my brother and I would sit there and watch it in the mornings as my dad made Sunday breakfast. I was greeted with an amazing smile from behind the counter by a woman with green hair. She inquired as to what I would like to order and my mind had went blank. I had been so preoccupied by the thoughts of my business proposal that I forgot what drink I wanted. I stupidly blurted out, "I don't know, can you surprise me with a drink that's really sweet?" The kind women in front of me smiled and went to work.
This women was deadly efficient at making my coffee. I watched as she seemingly danced behind the counter, mixing ingredients, taking other orders, conversing with her fellow staff members, all without missing a beat. It was an incredible sight. A few minutes after my initial request, the woman with the green hair handed me a holy concoction. It was a light blue colored drink, almost with a cyan hue to it, filled with ice and what seemingly looked like lucky charm marshmallows. I had never seen anything like it. Usually I order one of the specialty lattees, but I had never seen this creation before. The woman said it was a new recipe her and her coworkers made. It was a twist on cotton candy. I thanked the woman and walked back to my car, teeming with absolute excitement to try out this new flavor. As soon as I got into my car, I ripped open the straw and jammed it into the top of the lattee. I then proceeded to take a sip.
Now there are three moments in my life where I had reached a state of nirvana-like happiness. The first was the day when I married my wife of 27 years, the second was when my wife birthed triplets, and third was the first time I ever drank coffee. Taking the sip of that specialty cotton candy drink was the 4th happiest moment of my life. It was a flavorful explosion in my mouth, it was so delicious. I could taste the sweetness and richness of the almond milk, the popping cotton candy flavors, and my favorite - the little lucky charm piece - that made it up into my straw! The drink was so perfect in every aspect, kudos to all the workers and inventers who brainstormed the idea and special shoutout to the woman who had served me. Your smile, attitude, and skill behind the counter was second-to-none and I am honored to have been your customer.
After I finished my drink and called my wife to chat with her for a little bit, I proceeded to meet my clients for the business proposal. I was absolutely invigorated by the specialty cotton candy lattee and was no longer nervous. I walked into my meeting with my head held high and one and a half hours later, I SEALED THE DEAL!!!!! Massapequa Perk has not only the best coffee I've ever had, but also the nicest workers too! 5/5...
ย ย ย Read moreI can't believe I have never reviewed the Perk before. If I could rank this 1000/10 I would. I have been going since the shop opened and I was still in high school. The original owner, Lucky, used to chat with us about his decoration ideas, the coffee beans, etc. He affectionally called us the Hot Chocoalte Club as must of us had yet to gain a taste for coffee. I have been going ever since and even as it has evolved it remains my all time favorite shop. As I learned to appreciate coffee it became my go-to for a truly good cup. I came to review today because it truly helped save my morning. I ordered coffee from a certain multimillion dollar corp because it "had a drive thru and would be quick". What a mistake. That cup was all burnt coffee and water. I knew I HAD to go to the Perk to remedy my grave mistake. The first sip reminded me why I shouldn't go anywhere else. My only two things I wish they had were: later hours (I tragically get out of work right as they close), and that they had kept the small alcove in the back with the couchs and arm chairs. It was so cozy there. But if those are the only bad things I have to say about this place, that speaks volumes. If you are looking for a proper cup of coffee where the baristas don't scorch the the milk and the coffee is never burned, this is the shop for you. I could go on and on about my love for this place, but go try it for yourself and see what I mean! Thank you for all the years of...
ย ย ย Read moreI would give this place five stars, as the coffee is good although the service is usually a little slow, but it's worth the wait. I've never written a review, especially calling out an employee, but this is the third time I've gone here and gotten this particular gentleman. He serves hot coffee in iced coffee cups with ice, only person I've ever had wait on me do that, and it's happened all three times. And the order is just.....watery nothing every time. This last time I said something and I'm pretty sure he pretended not to hear me, and a girl swooped in and tried to fix it. Another time he gave me whole milk when I asked for oat, which I'm not ordering it because I like the taste, but a legit allergy. This place is a local gem and the other folks working there are hard-working and lovely, I"m not sure what this kid's issue is. I'm not looking to come in and throw my coffee away every time because someone doesn't like their job. Edit to update that today's coffee likely had dairy in it as well, so another day ruined. I'll head to Starbucks next time where they'll take the...
