Last night my husband and I and another couple celebrated his birthday at the Garden Grill. It was pretty busy and our server Brandon told us up front that there was a bit of lag time on food service .... our drinks and appetizers came out promptly enough so all was good - and Brandon was an absolute sweetheart. Our dinners came out eventually-a little slow but not terribly bad considering the crowd size. Food was delicious except my friends steak was well done in lieu of medium rare- Brandon replaced it speedy quick with a perfectly cooked steak. Here’s where the evening got interesting. There was a large group of heavy drinkers sitting behind us who repeatedly walked past our table and through the outside area unmasked- we did not see any indication that they were asked to adhere to rules of wearing a mask while walking around. At one point a very drunk Bob was standing 2 feet behind me shouting to his tablemates unmasked. My friend asked him to put his mask on and take a few steps away from our table and Bob unleashed on us cursing, threatening, disgusting mouth tirade. As my husband stood up to shut this total loser down Bob’s friend intervened and whisked him away- still cursing, threatening and spitting. The “security” guard came over and basically did nothing. I’ve 2 major issues here.1) Why is GG NOT enforcing mask wearing when on the move- as a paying customer we should NOT be the ones to intervene. And 2) Bob was clearly very drunk and should have been cut off long before this incident- GG needs to do a better job of monitoring their customers. With all this being said I’m really not sure if we would go back- maybe after covid and we can eat inside where the customers are hopefully held to a...
Read moreWe had my baby shower at The Garden Grill on April 16th. The manager never contacted us about seating arrangements for the tables. Staff wasn't willing to help set up the tables. When my shower was coming to and end we had the space until 3:00 the manager allowed two people from the next party (Bridal Shower) upstairs into my party. The woman from the next party charged up the stairs at 2:50 and told us to get out of her space. I told her to leave but she continued to remain in the area staring at me with her arms crossed getting in my guests way when they were trying to exit. We had a difficult time removing decorations and gifts because she was standing in our path and refused to move. The manager was no where to be found. When the manager was confronted she had explained that the woman refused to leave my space when she was asked to leave. The woman didn't have the space until 3:15 her party started at 3:30. We had the space until 3:00. As a manager she should have been more persistent and never allowed anyone up the stairs until my party was finished. The manager basically apologized and dismissed me because she had other things going on. For the amount of money spent I would have expected a more professional and accommodating environment. That was not the case. Guests complained that the wait staff was not attentive. I advise you to proceed with caution when considering this restaurant for any occasion (bridal shower, baby shower,...
Read moreI have been going to the Garden Grill in Smithtown for several years now and am a happy returning customer. I would say that the restaurant fits the bill for a special occasion, romantic evening or a fun filled outing. The indoors has a beautiful Victorian aesthetic to it with thoughtful touches and old photographs of the owners family. I especially love the fact that they have a beautiful room with a fireplace. Meanwhile, the outdoors does justice to the restaurant’s name; it is like a garden getaway. There are hibiscus flowers and palm trees that make it fun. They even have shade sails that prevent the sun from directly beating on you. On live music days, they have a great variety of bands to listen to while having a great dining experience. The menu has an array of different food items and they often have another seasonal menu that adds new excitement for returning customers who want to have something a little different. I have had good overall service from the hostesses that greet me, to the waitstaff that serve me to the bartender that knows how to make fun mocktails for someone who is a teetotaler like myself. A special shoutout to Rob the bartender for all the magic that he does. Overall if you are looking to enjoy a dining experience that is memorable, the Garden Grill is a...
