After being a customer for over 10 years I will never go back!
The worst service I've ever seen and management / owner even worst, your place is very luck for the weekenders, trust me. Your food isn't that good.
By the way this is the 1st ever restaurant review I've ever wrote, and I eat out 4-5 times a week. Today I went for a nice Sunday morning breakfast, We ordered scrambled eggs, hamburger, pancakes (which I like well done) and sausage. The pancakes where so burnt I couldn't even cut through them I'm talking burnt, really burnt. I asked the waitress to please take them back and make me a new order, she insisted that I asked for well done pancakes with a crazy aggressive attitude, I Replied saying really well done these are burnt. This Bruce & Son has some crazy attitude problems towards there customers, the waitress and management / owner is unbelievable, instead of saying No Problem and making me a new set of $11 dollars pancake order, I guess they felt they can treat customers with a take or leave attitude. I WILL LEAVE IT! I will go elsewhere from now on, trust me. Anyway you lost a loyal customer...... I will tell all my friends that have homes all over Greenport, Southold and East Marion about my experience today and we will never ever ever support your restaurant again. We support all Northfork Resturant's because it's our second home and we love the town of Greenport.
Ms. Hostess / Owner your a lucky lady and thank god for family, instead of making things better you waved your hand as you didn't care, you obviously don't care because you take advantage of weekenders and have no culinary or front line restaurant etiquette, I will quote you " we don't need customers like you " REALLY! who talks like that in today's restaurant world. Guess what you need every customer to be happy, as a business owner for 30 year in NYC, the cardinal rule is you always make your customer happy. BURNT PANCAKES!!! And that's ok.
Never a disappointment with these excellent Greenport landmarks, great food and top service. Greenport regulars at Frisky Oyster, American Beach, Lucharitos, 1943, Bruce's, Sunset Beach and occasionally Claudio's, Aldo's Coffee. All these place's have have excellent food...

They've created a NYC dining experience in country Long Island. For breakfast they have little competition and it shows in the way they handle guests (in NYC they'd be out of business because people wouldn't put up with the service). Jeanne is probably the least friendly hostess/waitress you could ask for. She was annoyed that we stopped in for a table while I was still finishing a coffee I ordered several blocks away (and gave the same treatment to two other parties behind us...hint if people keep coming in with coffee because you open so late, maybe accomodate them instead of turning them away). As a result she told me to wait outside and when we finally sat down to eat, she took our order and we never saw her again until she brought the check. Out of spite for the coffee situation I didn't order an overpriced drink from them (their free water was good but warm), but you'd think when the food came she would have checked in and asked again if I needed a drink. Nope. Her loss, the bill would have been $10-$15 higher. But this is what you can expect if you decide to eat here. Most restaurants also suggest tip amounts on the check starting at 15%. Not here. Their suggestion starts at 20% and goes up. And they warn if you don't tip that they will add an extra 25% onto your check. Someone needs to explain to them that tipping is discretionary for good service (maybe their bad attitude has bitten them too often?). And what if you decide to tip less than 20% (deserved based on my experience); would they bump it up before processing...
Read moreMy fiance and I were so excited to have brunch at Bruce and Son about which Zagat said This “little jewel” in Greenport rocks an “off-the-hook breakfast menu” and leaves “everyone smiling” . Made our reservation the day before for 10:30 am and arrived to be seated at a table for two. After taking our drink order, when I asked the waitress if they had stevia for my coffee, she said, “ i dont know. We have an assortment of sweeteners, you can check.” I looked over to the table next to us and saw that there was stevia in the box. I thought it was not an appropriate response but oh well. About 10 minutes later, she came back to take our food order without bringing our coffees. Then I proceeded to order egg benedict and asked to have my poached eggs really soft and runny. I have been told by the waitress that “we do not temp our eggs”. To her credit, she offered to ask the kitchen and came back to say, “Sorry, they are too busy to make your poached egg soft/runny.” We left immediately to find a breakfast/brunch spot that actually knows what it means to be in the service industry and make their eggs the way the customer wants and truly leaves...
