Last week after having a fine needle biopsy of my knee which was very painful I was in the mood for a huge calzone to take home so that I would not have to stand in my kitchen and cook after my procedure. Because Vito's was closed unfortunately I drove over to the nearby strip mall and saw another authentic Italian place called Fortunato so I decided to give it a try.
I ordered a calzone with pepperoni to go. Was very excited because is the calzone was humongous if not enormous. However that evening when I heated up a piece of it in the microwave and began to eat my excitement went to immediate disappointment. There was way too much ricotta cheese which made the dough soggy, very little mozzarella cheese and barely a speck of pepperoni. I decided I could not eat this.
The next day I drove from downtown Baltimore where I live all the way up York Road back to fortunato's to return the calzone that I could not eat. The gentleman working there was the one who made my cows on the day previously. I was very polite and tender with my concern about the food and at first I could feel that he was a little agitated. But I did not back down I continue to be polite and explain to him I would be happy if they could just Exchange the uneatened calzone for an Italian sub.
He agreed and I was really glad afterwards that I took the time to go back and have the food item exchanged. The Italian sub was so delicious never mind it being enormous and humongous as well just as the calzone was.
I'm really happy that the gentleman working at fortunato's took my concerns seriously and was willing to exchange my own eaten order for something that I could actually eat. For this reason I will return to Fortunato and most likely get an Italian sub because it was very...
Read moreI used to love this place. When I was a teenager and into my early twenties, when a friend of mine worked there, this was the place to get good pizza. That was maybe longer ago than I thought. Another time, you might say. Tonight, my wife and I ordered a veggie pizza with pepperoni added on. That's our old standby. Our pizza arrived, early but soaking wet. It looked like they opened up some cans of vegetables and dumped them over an extra pepperoni pizza they had lying around. There was an odd funk about it -- stuffy and artificial, not like that nice greasy pizza smell. There was a weird thing with the driver, too. The delivery guy just left our order in the lobby of our apartment building after calling me to meet him down there. I know that's maybe not the restaurant's fault, but maybe it is; the guy introduced himself as being from Fortunato's over the phone, not GrubHub. But given that this was an online order, I called GrubHub customer service. They called the restaurant. The reply from the restaurant was that they would not offer any refund or re-delivery. Nothing. All I got was a small consolation: $10 off my next order from GrubHub. So now I'm out $20 and hungry. We tossed out the pizza and the salad (didn't trust the food anymore) and ordered from someplace else. For pickup. This place used to be good, but something's changed and it's a far cry from what...
Read moreFrom the beginning of ordering I felt almost pressured because I didn't want to buy already made pizza. And I noticed this because it was almost instantly I was given a not so pleasant facial reaction when placing a fresh order. Along with this, I felt that I was racially profiled. Reason being, I don't believe I received a pleasant greeting upon entering the establishment. But once I retrieved my semi high profile vehicle and parked it in front of the store while waiting for my order, I was treated like a regular.... Almost like a long time friend in my opinion. The ingredients were not to my standards. I've been to places that have used spinach leaves as opposed to canned spinach. Which was used for my particular order. My green peppers were not fresh along with the cheese being a low grade. In addition to this, a separate order was made for a single slice that was so hard it was unbearable to even consume. Also marinara sauce is served with the onion rings. Which was a first for me. Not the best tasting... Unfortunately overall, the quality was not worth...
