Discovering Forrest, A Food Studio was like finding a hidden gem tucked away in Traverse City. Walking in, the ambiance immediately felt like a warm embrace, with a wall of coat hooks inviting us to get cozy and settle in. What struck me most was the communal spirit—individual parties seated together, fostering a sense of connection. The menu, a testament to simplicity and quality, showcased expertly prepared ingredients speaking for themselves. No need for elaborate explanation or instruction; each dish spoke volumes with its flavors and textures. And the wine pairings? Impeccable. They elevated each course, complementing the flavors in delightful harmony. And let’s not forget the gin martini—a true masterpiece, setting the bar high for libations. While Forrest may lean towards a splurge, it’s a treat worth the occasional indulgence. The passion of Forrest and Nicole for their craft is palpable, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.

Local TC couple own /create/serve at this amazing restaurant. Fri and Sat night only. 20 customers for each seating (one seating a night). It feels like you’re invited into their kitchen for an exquisite meal. We ordered the “wine pairing “ for each course (four tastings) for an additional $45 pp. I felt they could have “topped off” our glasses or provided a full pour. I asked for a “splash more” of the red served with dinner and was surprised we were charged. That being said, I would return EVERY month as the menu changes each month. This place is booked ALL SUMMER but I put my name on a “notify” for cancellation and scored a rez for two.

Forrest made us (a group of 10 adults) an awesome New Year's Eve meal! Lamb/beef meatballs and sausage flat bread appetizer, salad, steak and lobster mash potatoes, and a hazelnut monkey bread for dessert. He and his wife, Nicole, were a pleasure to work with, and they left the kitchen cleaner than they found it. Would highly recommend!

Edit: I was mistaken as the owner noted and updated my single 4/5 segment to 5/5. We incorrectly assumed having our boxed dessert and bill paid that our food had not been saved and we didn’t want to cause a fuss in front of others or seem to be asking for a discount, which we weren’t.

Atmosphere is cute and welcoming. Patrons are seated with others and served each course at the same time. Cucumber water was complimentary and went great with everything.

First three courses were excellent, a bread course, crab croquettes, Brussels sprouts. The Beef Wellington was a little underwhelming. There was a crepe included inside the pastry which was very eggy. I ended up scraping it out best as I could and reassembling the Wellington.

We were a little bummed that we asked for about half of our Wellington to be boxed and they forgot to save it. I was stuffed but would have gladly eaten the rest of it, I just wanted to savor it. I felt awkward addressing it at a large table of strangers. They were happy to box up one of our two desserts however. And the dessert was wonderful. The wine pairings were also quite nice.

Other than the leftovers the service was wonderful. Not knocking the Wellington too hard for what may just be...

Dear Forrest and Nicole,

I wanted to write to tell you both what an incredible experience we had last weekend. Justin and I were both blown away at the service, detail, uniqueness, education and most importantly, the out of this world food. It’s been a while since food has felt this magical. Each course was very obviously, thoughtfully prepared. You hear sometimes about soul being an ingredient in food, well I’m here to tell you we tasted it. The way you two work so fantastically as a team also needs to be highlighted. You were so synchronized and it was pretty apparent you have a deep and established relationship. We saw very little verbal communication as you both were hustling your tails off, but we noticed a sweet camaraderie. There seemed to be a lot of mind reading and subtle body language cues, all recognized and executed with precision and efficiency. I very much appreciated the kitchen tour, and hearing about how decor was chosen. We felt comfortable right away in your lovely space and look forward to returning monthly! Fingers crossed something opens in March! Thank you both again for an awesome night! Fondly, Kate...

Forrest, A Food Studio hosted us (11 adults) for my mom's Surprise 60th Birthday Party. From initial contact with Forrest and Nicole, through the planning, multiple questions and emails, and final execution of the party, Forrest and Nicole handled everything cheerfully and with ease. They were flexible and courteous and provided an incredible atmosphere for the party. Forrest created a 4-course menu that was spectacular, unique, and enjoyed by all. The cocktail list was creative and everything was made right in front of us. We were allowed to explore the space while Forrest cooked and were able to watch him execute the dishes. Forrest's wife and business partner, Nicole, guided us through the evening and was wonderful to work with. 5-stars truly does not begin to describe the overall experience!

I have not had the pleasure of trying their take-out or doing one of the cooking classes, but I have only heard great things from friends and co-workers. I would highly recommend working with Forrest and Nicole for any type of get together/ event and look forward to trying the other things (such as take-out) that they...
