This is a seriously good taproom-style food establishment, and coming from someone who did his research last-minute and just chose a place to eat, 7 Monks was a Tigers-baseball postseason grand slam.
For two people who have an appetizer, a main dish, and two drinks each, the price is about $60 before tip. Not unreasonable given how good the food and beer selection is.
We went there two nights in a row during the winter, so summer could be much busier and more hectic for sure. The first night we had the greasy spoon burger (12/10), and a patty melt special (10/10). For an appetizer, we had the fingerlings with beer cheese, which somehow were even better than the burgers we would later split. Simply put, the fingerlings might be the best appetizer I have ever had at a taproom.
Second night, we split the pretzel bites and the ribeye steak hoagie. The pretzel bites were served with beer cheese and a dijan spicy mustard sauce, and they seemed like they were homemade. Very good. The hoagie was also crazy good, and was filling even when split between two people.
Finally, the service was fantastic. Devin was great, making jokes about my over-under on craft beer consumption. We both forgot the names of the bartenders the first night, but they were also great.
If you are a craft beer person, they have beers, ciders, different ales, porters, and stouts from across the great state of Michigan. A great and diverse selection.
Overall, 10/10, or 5/5 for those following the google review standard. My girlfriend said "12/10," so...
Read moreI find as someone who works in food service anyone who owns a restaurant not having any experience working in a restaurant themselves to be a major red flag. The ownership absolutely reflected how management was handled and barely being involved with the Grand Rapids location but also making changes without making themselves more present to see for themselves and based off of numbers is Clearly showing you don't care about your employees' well-being. The audacity to increase the prices of your menu items (a majority of the ingredients come from GFS and we all know that the quality of GFS is disgusting so what exactly are you charging so much more for?) but then cut hours of people who are hard workers and did not cause any problems. Insane how I was punished with my hours but meanwhile they let the sous chef who was verbally abusive towards myself and my other coworkers both in the kitchen and front of house continue to have his hours and position without Reprimanding him appropriately. I should have known that this place was no longer a safe place to work nor accepting of minorities when they took down the rainbow flag long before i left. If you are part of the LGBTQ community or if you are a person of color you will be...
Read moreMy family and I just moved here from Indiana and we have been to tons of restaurants here in Michigan! NONE of them were good, we decided to try 7 Monks Taproom and FELL IN LOVE.
I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger, my husband ordered the Double Smash Burger. I had a bite of his burger and didn’t want to give it back.
Both burgers were phenomenal! We are a French fry family, and the French fries were nicely crisp and seasoned to perfection.
Every Burger place we have been to in Michigan so far has let us down! From raw uncooked burgers, to old and cold buns and more. 7 Monks cooked to perfection! It reminded us of Bru Burger back in Indiana which is our favorite burger place!
We didn’t get pictures because the food was soo good we forgot to pull our phones out haha!! My husband is still talking about the pretzel bites with beer cheese and the Smash Burger.
Our server was Charlie! She was absolutely amazing, very personable with our babies, never left a glass empty, and continued to check in on us to make sure everything was cooked to perfection.
I love the restaurants vibe, the music and atmosphere was perfect! Very clean and professional.
10/10 WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Yours Truly...
