H&L Social Rooftop Bar and Eatery — Restaurant in Traverse City

Had a great experience here last night. Food was good, view is great, and Dennis and the 2 ladies helping him behind the bar were super friendly and helpful. I had a gift certificate that I didn't know how to apply as payment when ordering from my phone, and Dennis had never seen that type of gift certificate either, but he didn't skip a beat. He smiled, wrote down the order for me and my wife, gave it to the cooks, then went behind the scenes to get the payment handled while my wife and I enjoyed our drinks and waited for our food. Typically you'd get the "let me ask my manager" response and then sit and wait, but Dennis handled it and was awesome. ...

Views were the best in the city. One of the worst old fashioned I've ever had served in plastic. Waited over an hour for cold food. Expensive, cold, and soggy truffle fries. Cold unseasoned chicken on a salad. Incredibly overcooked flavorless cold burger with a soggy bun. Paid extra for cold fries. If the fries were fresh they probably would've been great. Can't understand how food could be so cold when it's only a 5 story rooftop. I guess if you just want a quick glass of wine with a nice view it's worth stopping by.

It was 4:45pm on a Saturday, we arrived on the rooftop to be told by the bartender the rooftop was closing. There were 5-6 parties still enjoying drinks on the rooftop, but apparently they were closing for no reason despite it being listed to be open until 10:00. We asked what time they were supposed to close and the bartender said “now.” The front desk told us they shouldn’t be closing yet but they did anyways.
