So for the last 8 years I've lived in Troy I have loved K's. Raved about K's. Talked about just how great K's was. Last night, on my dad's last night in town visiting, we decided to go to K's. For the first time, I completely regretted that decision. When we got there, it wasn't very busy, 2 people ordering and maybe 3 tables already eating. I explained to my dad how to order and grabbed him a menu to look over before walking up to the counter. I stood there for a few minutes waiting, a boy and girl stood talking behind the counter, while another girl cooked burgers, and another girl stood leaning over the back corner of the "bar" area talking to what appeared to be her boyfriend. Finally a girl, Isabella, walked up and asked if I had been helped then took my order. 2 double cheeseburgers, 2 chocolate shakes, 1 fry, 1 onion ring. She told me it would be 20mins. For the next 15mins 3 more tables came in.after the 2nd table received there food, i look up at the counter and see our order with the 2 sides and shakes. And she is putting the burgers on. She then disappears to the back. Another five minutes go by and we asked another girl if its ready, she disappears into the back then comes out saying yes its our order but it is not don yet. A few more minutes go by and still our food site. Completely done. I go back up to the counter, ask what exactly.is missing, none of the employees up front know because they did not take the order. They look to the back and ask if its whomever is back there's order. Isabella then Pokes her head out sees me and pulls back into the back. I continue to wait a few more minutes just for her to come out and tell me we are just waiting on the ice waters..for 20mins our food sat done, while she sat in the back area. Needless to say I was very disappointed and rather embarrassed to have taken my dad there last night. Colr sides....
Read moreFor everyone who wants to go back in time in a delicious way, K's is the place❗ This restaurant is like going back (for those who remember) to anywhere from the 1930's to the sixties. The decor takes you back as soon as you stop in, everything beautifully kept up as close as possible to the original era when K's started, from the seating to the flavour and the way the food is prepared (original recipes, all homemade as much as possible), to that one thing that can't be copied..... The personal touch...... Everything is made fresh and to order so that when you get it, it's fresh, hot, and good tasting as it was intended to be. The burgers here are some of the best you'll ever find anywhere and, again, cooked to order; the Cole Slaw is very good as well, as is the Potato Salad. The fries are nicely done and will not ever be compared to any chain store, which is great. If you are into beverages, the coffee here is the best I've had for quite a long time. The taste is very fresh, clean, and very aromatic.... This is really, really good coffee. The staff are super friendly as well and will answer any questions you have and give good advice on the selections, too. Best of all, two people could eat nicely here, have drinks and if you have room, maybe a dessert (home made as well) for prices that, while not quite like the sixties, will remind you of a better time and definitely won't break the bank 😊❗Whether you are in the area or not, K's is the place........ This is one place that is worth making a trip to not only see, but also eat at and enjoy. We just turned after a short time, and it is still as fantastic as always. You won't be sorry and as an added plus, you'll be supporting local...
Read moreI will be honest and say that if the goal was to be transported back to a day gone by, then this would be a five star review. However, there are aspects of today's modern dining experience that I think would be appropriate additions to this restaurant.
The good: The food was excellent and prepared quickly. It was hot and not sitting around waiting to be served (well, picked up from the counter, no wait staff). Very clean place and friendly staff.
The OK: No waitstaff meant waiting in line to order (where there wasn't really a good place for a line to queue) and then constantly looking to see if your food was ready. There didn't appear to be a system to let people know who were out of the sight of the food counter that there food was ready. The lack of free refills on drinks was a lot to be desired since the glasses were small and full of ice. Minor complaint to be sure, but if you are going to charge close to the same amount as most other restaurants for a soda / pop, then it should be the same size or offer refills.
In the end, I would have no hesitation in going back and would not let the "OK" issues stop you from going. Just know going in that it is a place meant to take you back to another time... A time with no...
