Anytime my cousin and I break for lunch in Troy, there's only one place on our minds: La Capital Tacos. This gem of a taco joint has won us over time and time again with its authentic fare, friendly staff, and laid-back ambiance. As self-proclaimed "hillbillies" from upstate NY, we may not have aced Spanish in school, but we've certainly mastered our order at this little slice of Mexican heaven.
Right off the bat, the staff at La Capital Tacos are always welcoming and patient. They're happy to navigate us through their Spanish menu, answering our questions and guiding us to delectable selections. The language barrier doesn't impede the order; instead, it adds to the authentic charm of the place.
Then there are the drinks. They offer an impressive array of Mexican sodas and traditional beverages. Standouts include the sweet and refreshing horchata, and a vibrant hibiscus tea, the name of which slips my mind, but the taste certainly lingers on my tongue.
After ordering and picking our drinks straight from the fridge, we're handed a table number. The efficiency of their service impresses us every time as our order arrives promptly at our table, hot and ready to be devoured.
The tacos. Oh, the tacos! Whether it's beef, pork, fish, or chicken, each has its own unique burst of flavors. Topped with fresh pico and creamy guacamole, they're a feast in themselves. But the real game changer? Their salsa verde and hot sauce. They pack a punch and take the flavor to another level. Fair warning though - they're not for the faint of heart!
La Capital Tacos has undoubtedly become a favorite of ours. Their authentic Mexican food, warm service, and relaxed setting make each lunch break feel like a mini-vacation. It's a place we highly recommend to anyone at HQ looking for a memorable lunch break in Troy. So, here's to many more lunches at La Capital Tacos - a genuine culinary gem in the...
Read moreThis gem has dedicated parking and a really nice vibe inside. Seating is extremely limited, and I wouldn't try eating there under COVID restrictions, but I'm looking forward to it when the situation changes.
The staff here have embraced specialization and you can feel the love in their handiwork. There are four primary options-- Tacos, Tacos with Everything, Fish Tacos, and Quesadillas. There are a variety of protein options (and a vegetarian one!) but you can tell the tortillas are handmade, and the fillings are both tasty and have that farm-sourced appearance. I tried the tacos with everything, choosing carne asada for my protein, and the quesadilla with just chicken to split with my son-- who is a bit of a purist. The thick quesadilla tortilla reminded me of a pita, but it was delicious and the chicken was extremely flavorful.
The tacos were perfect hand-held size, with fresh greens (I believe it was romaine) pico, and a dollop of savory guacamole. I hit them with the two lime wedges I was given and devoured them in minutes. This Colorado transplant loved them enough that I was thinking about ordering them again for lunch the next day. Prices were reasonable, and the wait was short. I am looking forward to working my way through the protein options and trying the blue corn for the quesadilla when I'm not sharing.

Read moreI work at a hospital and my coworkers and I ordered Birria Tacos and I always recommend this place because I love the food and have never had a problem. However thisorder it took a long time and that was completely fine, seeing how it was cinco de mayo, I figured they would be really busy. However when I called to make sure the order was still being worked on seeing how it was almost close to their closing time, the woman answered the phone and was very rude and literally asked “dude what’s your name” in a very irritated voice and I by passed that figured they had a rough day like my coworkers and I did. We ordered at 638 and got our food at 859, which again was fine except the fact they forgot one of our orders so after getting slammed all day at work one of my coworkers was left without food and when I called to let them know that they were very rude and as the lady was telling me what they could do to resolve the issue there was someone also talking in the background being very nasty and making snark comments to which the lady on the phone had to interrupt and say “she’s on the phone”to where she replied “oh”. Like I said I never complain and love the food and just thought it was really unnecessary and very unprofessional. I get it we all have bad days and just as much as they were having a bad day, so were we and ended the night with no food or drinks and nasty...
