I waited OVER 40 minutes to get my take out. This is after specifically being told my order would take 15 minutes. When I tried to follow up, the white cashier snapped at me in rude matter in front of everyone. I explained that everyone who was there after me already left with their orders so something might be wrong -- and dripping with attitude she dismissively said in front of everyone: “we can cancel your order and refund you. Is what what you want?!" After I spent all that time waiting and had a meeting right after!?! And as a visitor in Troy with no food in my hotel, at that point in time, I couldn't cancel it unless I wanted to go to bed hungry. Humiliating to be treated that way.
Before that she been busy gossiping with a random customer about how she hated her landlord (the customer’s old boss) and she didn’t pay him any rent... So the cashier is just a petty and toxic person who has no clue how things work... And hopefully not a reflection on the Korean family that works there.
I also bought several things from the store and she also kept asking me loudly “do you want to leave a tip for that?” after I already left a tip on the initial food order. No I don’t want to leave a tip on a $2 purchase of pocky. No I don’t want to leave a tip on a $5 jar of kimchi.
I would have been more compassionate had she just said “Sorry, let me see what I can do about this.” Instead she snapped at me and tried to say that the people who left before me were online pick ups when I specifically saw those guys put in their order in person.
It’s too bad because the food was good and as a travel writer, I was genuinely excited to review that Korean spot. But man, what a horrible and humiliating experience. This was all while a colleague of mine waited in the car for me for 40+ minutes AND I arrived late to our conference call. I just ordered a soup btw. Next time tell people “the soup will take 40 minutes” so we can either order something else or...

This restaurant heavily reminds of hole-in-the-wall experiences in and around Manhattan, from the brownstone core to the dark and moody ambiance.
This is different: there's not a ton of seating and the service is hybrid self-serve. You place your order at the register, and they bring out the food and drinks to your table. They have a refillable water station and self-take utensils at each table. Serving bowls are single use unless you pay for the stone bowls (+3$)
The food is tasty enough and feels authentic. The efficient business structure makes for a very relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful, moody setting at casual dining prices.
Also be aware that the more prominent location looks like a shack (the original location), but the actual restaurant is just slightly down the street and is quite appealing, even from the outside.
Notably, they have a large selection of hot teas. The date flavored jelly tea...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious food! And we were told the bar side had been open only a week prior to our visit so we sat on that side. It was beautifully decorated. Very warm, comfy feeling from the ambiance. A restaurant that is more like farm to table that has you walk inside go past all the tables and take a clipboard with the menu on it, you order and pay at the back and have a seat waiting for your food. It's a small restaurant and I imagine can get loud when crowded but we had an early dinner and it was very nice. We ordered the mandoo, bulgogi and spicy pork that both came with purple rice which was different than I've had at other Korean restaurants but very yummy. Would go back next time I am in the area and have already recommended to several friends. Friendly staff and great food here just bring your fun...
