Winans Coffee & Chocolate — Restaurant in Troy

This place is massively hyped by the locals. It’s a staple downtown business. So keep in mind there’s a lot of nostalgia and civic pride behind many of these reviews. I love my town but if you’re coming in from elsewhere. Here’s my honest 2 cents on Winans. The coffee just really isnt that good. Sure the lattes and steamers and mocha whatever’s are good, but when you drown the coffee in sugar and flavors, doesn’t do much matter what actual coffee you use. The actual coffee is ok. If you really like coffee, I would avoid this place. There is too much great coffee around to waste money here. I’ve also heard from multiple employees that the family that owns Winans are VERY NOT good people. Like terribly bad human beings. I suppose they passed ownership to their son, who I’ve heard from people know him, is not all that great either, not as bad as pops, but meh anyways. But really just a short way away is Mid-Town and Purebred. They have great coffee. and up in Piqua,North Star Coffee Station has some of the best coffee I’ve had in a long time. Try these places out if you like coffee and want to support local business that need your support. Winans is a chain now, not really a “small local business”...

Chocolate and coffee what a winning combination! The Seattle chain may be opening a new shop every 15 hours in China, but in the Miami Valley we are spoiled with our Winans. For instance for the month of October carmel apples are special enough, but nuts and or sea salt may be added. But then again the Buckeye apple has a layer of peanut butter and chocolate. This Winans is in a historic building near an outside fountain in Historic Troy OH with unique shops and within walking distance of a museum and cultural center. I have been going to Winans for many years now, but recently my service has been very lack-luster. Today I went in and was not even greeted with a “hello” by the barista. Both baristas working were very cold and rude towards me and did not speak to be at all besides answering my “hi!” and my few questions.
