It's a strange mix of semi-authentic Chinese food with flavors from across several provinces and re-imagined dishes for the, ah, "American palate." Ordering can become fairly confusing without the benefit of pictures or sufficient description to know what you're getting into, so it's a bit of a mixed bag without some foreknowledge.
Let's start with the good!
Shoot for the roast duck, char sui pork, chow fun, mapo tofu and anything with black bean sauce if you're looking for aromatic and interesting flavors. Excellent value and great food!
Despite personally finding myself done with this restaurant, the above really does warrant 4 out of 5 stars! ...
Everything falls apart when it comes to their Americanized offerings however, with textures and flavors stuck in 1970's Americana version of Chinese food involving thick cornstarch sauces, excessive sugar and pancake-style battered fried foods. Inexplicably these cheap and fast bastardizations are 2-3x the price of the more authentic fare.
They could greatly benefit from a clear menu distinction between what has been Americanized vs. not; personally, the misleadingly named salt and pepper shrimp is especially lackluster, and has been my breaking point with this restaurant. There's nothing quite like a healthy heap of unseasoned raw flour dough and cold seafood bits for a cool $20.00 to make you rethink your life choices.
Maybe that's your bag, if so, have at! Personally, I'll start making the drive to Red Pearl, Great Wall and Mr. Chen's again just to avoid the pitfalls of food made for the meat and three heart...
Read moreI don't review food items hardly ever but here we go. Ordered here for delivery first time today. Delivery was fine. The food however I expected to be very good judging by the reviews but I wasn't very impressed. First I've never seen egg rolls as small as the ones here. I mean they are index finger size. 8 of them fit in a tiny container if that gives a clue. Ordered Mongolian beef it had about a cup plus of watery liquid at least in the container. Beef was fairly good but just a watery mess. I don't know what kind of batter is used on the crab Rangoon or on the sweet and sour chicken but it leaves a bitter taste. So tried this place once and that will be it. You might have a better experience try it and see. Apparently from the glowing reviews alot of people like it. I just wasn't impressed for the amount of money they are charging for the...
Read moreFirst off, the food is great. Been eating here for years. However, that ends today. I had the WORST customer service experience. I had called in an order that my wife was going to pick up. It was lunchtime, and I ordered the dinner version of shrimp & vegetables and the dinner mongolian beef. When she got home, the shrimp & vegetables had no shrimp and my mongolian beef was the lunch special. So, I called to let them know their mistake. The man I talked to, the one I ordered from, laughed and said I ordered the "vegetable medley" which I did not. When I told him I knew what I ordered, he argued about it and basically called me a liar. Funny thing is, I order the same thing everytime. I told him off and hung up. Never eating there again. The guy even tried calling me back, like I'm going to talk to him after that?! Done...
