O M G!!! This IS the best sushi I’ve ever had, EVER!!! So fresh, huge, tasty. The mussels are gigantic, calamari is real and big pieces, none of the sauces are watered down. We haven’t ordered any rolls only appetizers and sashimi. We’ve definitely gotten our money’s worth.
This above is what I texted two of my children in CA. I’ve gone to a lot of sushi places in CA but I didn’t realize I’d be in Henrico, VA to get the best EVER! I am not kidding when I tell you I’ve NEVER had any sushi taste so fresh. This food was amazing. I tried a few new things but my absolute favorite, well two favorites, was the green mussels and the salmon. I can still remember putting it in my mouth and savoring the taste. I almost sounded like my 3yr old grandson when he’s enjoying what he’s eating, mmmmm😋, mmmmmm😋, mmm 😋. I couldn’t help myself. I was trying to eat so slow but I wanted to eat so fast because it was so good. We had tempura veggies, calamari, house salad, tempura shrimp, cucumber salad, miso soup, katsu chicken, and an array of sashimi. We wanted to start with appetizers and hold off on the rolls until we’d had a chance to see which appetizers we liked best. We never really got to the rolls because we had the sashimi. We did order a shrimp tempura roll (5pcs) and discovered we enjoyed the sashimi a lot more. I got two more orders of mussels, my daughter ordered deep fried Oreos and that was all we could do, no more, stick a fork in us we were done. Oh, on a big order of our sashimi, Tiffany (not sure her position) had the chefs put it in beautiful bowls and arranged as if it was food art. She came to our table before that and was so very nice and welcoming, it made our lunch so much nicer feeling like someone was making sure we were being served properly and we were liking what we were getting. She was very personable and made us feel very welcomed. She did mention that Sushi Masa had only been open for a month. So glad I visited VA now and had a chance to try the new place. Now, our server Alex, this young man was on his game. He was very attentive and didn’t hover over us but was around when we needed something. We never had to wait or flag someone else down to get something we wanted. I wish there were more servers like this around. He made us feel like he wanted us to have a good experience and was going to do whatever he could to make it happen. It wasn’t just us, he treated everyone that way. Always with a smile. Now, we did go in at lunch time but chose to have the dinner so we could do the sashimi & mussels. I’d do it again in a heartbeat, it was so well worth it. It is absolutely the best sushi place I’ve been to in any of the states where I’ve had sushi. SO, if you’re in the area and have a hankering for sushi/Japanese cuisine, please, please, please try this place. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Oh, I forgot to mention, the place was extremely clean and so nicely decorated inside. If I could give it 10...
Read moreFOOD WAS GOOD BUT SERVICE WAS THE WORST. We love to try new AYCE sushi places. This one was a tad far about an hour and half one way. However since there were such good reviews we decided to make the trip. We waited about 20 mins to be seated, which is average. We were sat in a section that had about 11 tables, when we sat down only 4 other tables had people there. They all had a waitress and we were the only table in that section that had a waiter. Within minutes of being sat he came over with another male to ask for our drink order. We asked for water since we didn't have time to look yet. He also failed to mention that the AYCE included a drink. They were out of sweet tea and most beers. We got one beer and hot tea. It started out well. We ordered some salads, soup, apps and 4 rolls. I did mention that i didn't get my hot tea yet. After this order we never say our main waiter again. Unless we went to the bathroom, and then you would see him at the sushi bar on his phone. All that food came out within 20 mins. We did get a roll we didn't order. We ate it anyway. All food that was delivered was brought out by the kitchen staff. We ordered another soup, some fried rice, balsamic tuna, tuna sashimi, 2 more rolls. After about another 20 mins we got the tuna sashimi and fried rice. The lady that was up front was walking around asking how everything was. I said I never got a refill for my tea and it took over 30 mins to even get it. I said we were still waiting on soup, balsamic tuna, salad and the rolls. She said that the kitchen is backed up and it should be out shortly. I mentioned that we order food before 3 of the other tables and they got sushi and kitchen food. She went and got the soup and about 15 mins later we got the rolls. We then sat at the table for 35 mins with no one coming by our table. Didn't get any refills on our water or tea. We didn't get to order other food or dessert. We never got the balsamic tuna or salad. We couldn't even get our check. I had to go to the host stand and ask for it. She then said oh the food should be out soon we said no we have been here over 2 hours and haven't enjoyed it, we just wanted the check. That took another 10mins, then she came over and gave us $3 off and a $10 gift card. The food was good but we wouldn't drive 3 hours round trip for...
Read moreI came here 3 times to ensure I had a fair judgement of this place before writing a review, but every time I’ve been here, I’ve been nothing but disappointed and this last visit was preposterous— so I figured it’s time to share. To start with my first visit, I had to remind our server (Bill) 3 times to bring my miso soup and had a half filled glass of soda handed to me because “they ran out and he had to go refill the machine”. Which is fine, stuff like this happens BUT he never came to refill it. The drink cost (with refills) is included in the price of AYCE so expecting a full drink is the bare minimum, let alone wanting refills. Additionally, our orders were messed up and at least one thing from every round of ordering was missing. Our server was unprofessional and kept blaming how packed the place was to his shortcomings (it wasn’t packed he was only tending to 3 other tables). He never checked in on us, I never got my drink and our orders were half fulfilled. It was bizarre and exhausting, but I saw other sections being treated better so I decided to give the place another go.
Fast forward to our second visit; it wasn’t as bad. Our server (missed his name) was very professional and did his best to make up for the achingly slow service. Two of the rolls we ordered were messed up at the end but it was easy to look over since it was no where near as bad as the first time.
I decided to bring my mother here for my third visit (her first time) to treat her on a sushi date and it was awful. Our server (Alex) was great and he was very professional— placed in our orders timely and checked in on us accordingly as well. The kicker was this: they refused to turn on the heat and the thermostat was set to 64 (see photo). It’s 30 degree weather today, setting the temperature that low on a below freezing day is unheard of! Everyone was freezing and in their jackets— by the end of it, I couldn’t bare it anymore and requested our check early.
I also got the stomach bug after my last visit which just makes me question their sanitary precautions.
All in all, it’s a big miss. There is a lot of potential, the decor is beautiful, location is great too. Huge miss steps on behalf of the management team and I would recommend a complete revision of their current...
