My 2 year old and I visited today for the first time. I was impressed by the variety of exotic produce including fresh cacao and durian in the produce (not frozen) section which was somehow not smelly š§ I picked up a couple of pints of strawberries (99Ā¢ each) and some green apples ($1.49/lb) a box of ripe mangoes ($8.99/8 mangoes) and some baby bok choy at the amazing price of $1.57/lb. And moved on to the meat section. I chose some beef short ribs, pork spare ribs, and a few pounds of shrimp from the seafood counter. The prices were good typically a few dollars per pound cheaper than typical supermarket.
I've spent a lot of time shopping at New Grand in RVA and before that, HMart in the DC metro area, so I am experienced with this kind of grocery store and it's offerings. I was impressed by the huge selection of bones, offal, and dried fish. It smelled relatively clean and the bathroom was definitely clean.
I would have probably given this place a solid 4-maybe even 5 stars if it weren't for my experience trying the beef. As soon as I got home, I cooked the beef in my air fryer (it did not smell) and tasted it. It tastes absolutely awful and I spit it out.
Traumatized š I brought it, the shrimp, and the pork back to the store and explained to customer service what happened. The customer service associate was very gracious and gave me a full refund for all the protein, about $60, for which I was very grateful. My trust was broken after the beef and I would have thrown it all away, I wasn't going to take chances and won't ever buy meat here again.
I would have knocked it down to 3 stars but a gentleman, most likely management, I'm not sure, came over, looked in the bag, and sarcastically asked me if I cancelled the barbeque. Not to be too salty, but I didn't appreciate that and found that comment humiliating when I was the one who ended up with rotten beef.
The customer service associate did a great job handling this problem, and I will probably return for the produce and specialty items, but I did not have a great experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have always really liked this Korean supermarket. We shop here about twice a week, usually spending over $100 each time. It is one of the few large Asian supermarkets in the area, and we have often recommended it to our friends.
However, a recent experience left us feeling very disappointed. Since we have not yet purchased a car, our weekend shopping routine is to visit another supermarket first, buy some items there, and then stop by this store afterwards. For about a month, we had been temporarily leaving those items at the customer service counter here before continuing our shopping in this store. The staff had always been friendly in the past.
One weekend, however, the Korean manager at the customer service counter, along with her staff, unexpectedly treated us in a very strict and unfriendly manner. They would not allow us to bring the shopping cart inside, nor leave our items at the counter. We explained multiple times that we did not need the store to take responsibility for our belongings, and that even if anything was lost, we would take full responsibility ourselves. We also expressed our apologies, explaining that we were in the process of searching for and purchasing a car, and that this was just a temporary situation. Unfortunately, I did not feel any understanding or flexibility during this interaction.
As loyal customers who spend close to $200ā$300 here every week, it was disappointing not to receive a solution or some form of assistance. In contrast, other supermarkets we shop at have always been able to offer a reasonable arrangement in such situations.
I sincerely hope the store can improve its policies and customer service, approaching situations like this with more flexibility and care, rather than in a way that makes customers feel pushed away. This kind of experience truly leaves a loyal customer feeling disheartened. It sometimes feels as though people from the same cultural background can be even more strict toward one another, which really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is hands-down my favorite international store Iāve ever visitedāand Iām not exaggerating. They truly have it all. I love the small food court with a variety of options, the fresh bakery (Iāve bought from them several timesāabsolutely delicious), and their wide selection of drinks.
I shop here often for distilled water by the gallon, fresh vegetables, and quality meats. Everything is reasonably priced compared to places like Target or Walmart, and the freshness is unmatched. Produce is swapped out daily, and you can even see freshly cut items being put out. Meat prices are incredible for 2025ālarge packs of drumsticks for around $4, full packs of chicken wings for about $12, plus lamb, goat, steak, and a variety of fresh fish like tilapia, snapper, and catfish. They also carry an extensive selection of canned goods, beans, rice, and fresh herbs.
The only downside is the storeās exit setup. Thereās only one exit, so even if youāre in the food court, you have to walk back to the same door to leave. Itās inconvenient, especially for older shoppers. If itās for safety, they could consider hiring security instead.
Aside from that, this store is fantastic. Great selection, fresh products, fair pricesāI highly recommend it to anyone looking for quality international...
