After reading the room description and the website an exciting escape room was anticipated. Unfortunately, this was one of the most disappointing escape room experiences we have been apart of. We were really excited for the Alice room, especially since the room was lockless as well as being able to be varied in difficulty to suit different play groups.
We waited a few minutes and received a greeting that was lackadaisical and short. Customer service was lacking throughout the whole experience. The restroom was dirty and had a layer of grime on the toilet and sink.
When everyone arrived (we were paired with another party for the room) we were greeted by what we assumed was our game master who was wearing what looked to be workout pants which felt unprofessional. He took us into the briefing room where he started a “video” and walked out of the room. No hellos or introductions or even what difficulty we wanted the room to be (which was why we wanted to do the room).
When we got to the room we entered one door to start the room to only find our game master again with another door opened which confused us. He closed the second door leaving us to solve the room. There was no timer in the room so it was confusing how much time there was left to complete the room.
The room had some interesting concepts but relied to much on knowledge of the 1954 Disney film using many of its elements as puzzles. We did have some technical issues while playing. First, our exit out of the room was left open which made us think that we had completed the room only to later hear it being reset while still working in the room. Second, we had a marker which didn’t write on the dry erase board causing a delay. Third, their was a random audio file that came into the room out of nowhere which was also confusing. Fourthly, it was really hard to hear our game master in the room and at one point the game master switched between the man that started the room and a female. Finally, one of the puzzles had a technical glitch that had to be overridden to be completed.
All in all it was a very disappointing experience and makes us question going back. We did not have fun and felt more lost than Alice did when she...
Read moreRiver City Escape Room has taken virtual fun to a whole new level. When my coworker and I were looking for a fun event to do with our team that had to be virtual, we immediately thought escape rooms. After touring some other sites virtually we were about to lose hope until we found River City Escape Room. After a phenomenal preview with Rachel, we knew we had to book!
Fast forward to our event. All of our expectations were exceeded! I wasn’t 100% sure how it would work out having a group of about eight people on a zoom call together going through escape room, but Rachel did an excellent job guiding us through it. Let me say there was plenty of fun and humor along the way as well. Even when we had our thinking caps on trying to figure out the next puzzle, we were always having such a good time.
As our team is based in the security realm we decided to do the innocent room. Basically prove yourself innocent from a crime and escape. This room feels like it would be so much fun both virtually and in person. The clues were not to easy but not too difficult either. This was a great room to work as a team and escape. We escaped with only a few seconds to go! It was an awesome challenge.
I hear that they are still doing some in person rooms, which is so exciting to me because the rooms look really well set up. But I would be just as happy doing it virtually again as well! Maybe next time we check out Manhattan!
I also want throw just the biggest call out that I can for Rachel. Her enthusiasm lit up the room and made our virtual fun event a huge success! We appreciate her and the rest of the team at river city escape room so much for giving us something fun and exciting to do as a team, together but...
Read moreWe have been to River City Escape room several times and have completed all of their rooms. Today we did the Clairvoyant room, and we were excited to try their newest room. As a group that has successfully completed over 50 escape rooms, we found this room to be seemingly impossible to complete without hints and the experience was extremely disappointing.
The clues didn’t flow from puzzle to puzzle, and the answers we finally figured out (with significant help) didn’t make sense either.
After the game, we asked the Gamemaster for some clarity on why certain answers to puzzles were the correct ones. They weren’t sure - and when we asked why it wouldn’t be a different answer based on what we solved, they shrugged and said this is just what the answer is but they weren’t sure why.
We also asked how a group was supposed to know what to do next based on what information was available. Again, they shrugged and suggested we ask for a hint for what to do next.
We try not to ask for hints and only do when we’re truly desperate. While it’s disappointing when we don’t escape from a room, it happens and we can move on. But what is extremely frustrating is not understanding why we couldn’t solve the puzzle correctly, and how we should have moved forward to escape from the room. When we look back on the room, we wonder how we could have ever figured out how to do some of the things required to solve the room, and that isn’t a fun way to leave an escape room.
I would love to know the Escape Rate on this room (without hints). I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s impossible if you don’t have...
