Chickenuevo — Restaurant in Tucson

I love this place. The chicken is ALWAYS tender, juicy and the skin is crispy and quite flavorful. Makes my mouth water just writing about it #pavlovsdog LOL.

I frequent during the week, especially if I am working from home, for lunch time (sometime between 11am-2pm). At this location in particular the parking is odd: a few spaces in the front, a few in the back and more in bigger parking lot behind Tumamoc Nutrition and the Cricket store. They have a drive-thru that I don't mind waiting in. Sometimes, they have a longer than usual line, but like I said, if you don't mind waiting it is definitely worth the wait. They are reasonably priced and on Wednesday's they have a family special where you can buy one whole chicken and get a 1/2 chicken free with two sides and you can make those sides large for $0.75 cents extra. You can't beat that. You can order anything from their combo menu without the sides and get the chicken and tortillas (corn or flour).

Unfortunately, I had to knock one star off for there very sporadic arroz con leche/rice pudding. If you're not familiar, it is exactly what is sounds like but often topped with ground cinnamon and raisins. I ordered a chicken salad bowl no Tortilla bowl . The girl at the register was rude and said the bowl comes with the salad and that I should dump it out of bowl when I get it???? I don't eat carbs and don't want my salad in a tortilla bowl , Anyways she gave me a salad with the tortilla in a Styrofoam container LOL which the salad could of just came in instead, and not wasted the tortilla bowl, on someone who said they are throwing it in the trash .. She was unfriendly and clearly cant think outside the box.... No pun intended … Also when asking to decline rice and beans, because once again I eat no carbs , She stated this is a Mexican restaurant it comes with it... I know what kind of food you serve and it has nothing to do with my preference or diet. .. on a side note the salad was good but...

First time and it was 'ok+'. I don't know what recipe they use for refried beans, but they need to lose it... watery beans?! How does that happen? Yuck! I ordered the crispy chicken tacos which came with a substantial, tasty tomato salsa and another watery 'sause'? that didn't have much flavor, so the watery sause got tossed. I purchased a side of guac (yum) and a churro (double yum). Mom had the leg/thigh meal and she (80yo) enjoyed it. That was a plus because it is very difficult to find take-out food suitable to the geriatric population. 5 stars for their tortillas which are made in-house and are available, reasonably, by the dozen! 1 star for their soda choice...
