We came for dinner because we noticed salsa verde driving down oracle road one night. I read the yelp reviews and felt confident in stopping to eat dinner. IT WAS DELICIOUS! The salsa bar had four awesome salsas, the mild red had the distinct flavor of chile de arbol. My experience with Chile de arbol was usually a painful one 🔥 but this one was mild but flavorful! I had a machete with carne asada, enchilada style, so it was sort of like a giant fluffy enchilada. The fresh corn tortilla was fluffy and delicious! The red enchilada sauce and white cheese were a great blend. My wife had the carne asada baked potato and she enjoyed it and the few bites I stole were fantastic! The carne asada had plenty of flavor, the potato was well done and the sauce was a perfect accent. The service was excellent, we were told to seat ourselves and we're brought chips and beans to dip. The beans were great and our server was attentive and helped me decide on the machete instead of the usual carne asada nachos. I got a refill before my drink was empty and more chips also. I'm glad we decided to stop here and are definitely coming back! P.S. I read some comments about the vibes, I'm not sure where they get them from, to me it seemed like a modern fast casual Mexican restaurant. It doesn't have the old school flavor of a Mi Nidito or Karachimka but it isn't trying to be...
Read moreI've dined in twice now and the first time I ordered their birria plate which was decent but not great. I have to remind myself that getting great Mexican foot is very difficult in Tucson despite what I would expect. I asked my server what their best dish was and she said it was their carne asada platter. A great carne asada platter is something I've been dying to find anywhere. So I came back a second time. They messed up my order and brought me asada fajitas. As the server was placing the cast iron plate down she acknowledged she was unsure this was what I ordered and wanted to confirm. After you already set the plate down?? I told her it was fine and that I would try their fajitas. The onions and peppers where way too thinly cut and were not appealing. The meat was fine considering it's what I expect from most casual Mexican restaurants. Thin cuts 'warmed' on a flat cooking surface. Not flame grilled nor seared for a nice cut. Can't imagine their asada plate is any different. I may try it one more time to be sure. It is great that they seem to cook everything fresh but from experience, just because you cook it fresh every day being a scratch kitchen doesn't guarantee...
Read moreMy daughter-in-law and I were looking for a bacon wrapped burrito, and this place was on our route and got very good reviews. While you can get bacon in your burrito, if you want it wrapped, you instead buy one of their percherones, the house specialty, which is essentially a burrito made with an even bigger flour tortilla. There are seven options, and we went with the chicken chipotle. OMG it was good! It felt like ordering bacon with a side of bacon, which for most Americans is a good thing. They wrap it completely in five strips of bacon and then deep fry it. It is not at all greasy and the bacon is perfectly cooked. There are all these videos on YouTube about the best way to cook bacon (e.g., bake, broil, fry with water in pan, etc.), but this is the best. Of course I am never going to set up a deep fryer just to cook bacon, so I will be back. I also ordered a chiles rellenos plate because that's my general test to see if I like a Mexican restaurant, and they were very good, but not on the same level. The percheron would have been plenty for two. I can't remember which type of agua fresca my daughter-in-law got, but it was very good, and I...
