Delicious healthy dishes bursting with flavor and a dose of kindness from the staff! As a tip, order directly from the Flower Child site to avoid DoorDash fees with promo code FLOWER35 and save 35% off Sunday thru Thursday. I saved $10 off the DoorDash fees the 2nd time around.
Glow Bowl (5/5) - Mild spicy kick and hands-down my favorite dish with sweet potato noodles swimming in a creamy coconut curry sauce and packed with veggies - snap peas, mushrooms, bok choy, zucchini, onion, crunchy sunflower seeds, topped with cilantro. The roasted Tofu is a nice protein add-on that absorbs all the flavors in the bowl. Sweet potato noodles are prepared well and can be tricky to cook as I have feebly attempted! Love the fun healthy stir-fry dish as all the ingredients and flavors blend well together.
Forbidden Rice (3/5) - Super spicy stirfry with a heavy dose of grains. While I love grains, they overpower the dish and would opt for a lighter pour of the red chili hoisin sauce. This dish doesn't fare well for delivery with saucy grains and soggy veggies.
Mother Earth (4/5) - Healthy salad on a large bed of grains packed with veggies - avocado, arugula, cucumber, portobello mushroom, sweet potato. The dish is also overwhelmed by grains and falls short on flavor. There isn't enough pesto and spicy red pepper miso vinaigrette It's a bit bland and not my favorite delivery option. There's not enough space in the narrow deep-set to-go containers to mix around the toppings. The grains remain on the bottom and can't be easily blended into the bowl. Wider harvest bowl style containers would fair better.
The stellar customer service goes above and beyond with a shout-out to Mark, the manager and Riley, one of the staff members. When I ordered delivery, the Door Dash driver misplaced my food to another condo unit. My hubby and I spent 1/2 hour trying to track down the order with the driver and walking up and down floors trying to find our food! When I called the restaurant and explained the fiasco, Mark offered to kindly comp me for the meal and also dinner on the house! Since it was a manual order, Riley drove to my condo to drop off the food. It was the wrong order with a Chicken Mother Earth bowl instead of Tofu - which doesn't work for a vegetarian! When I called the restaurant again, Riley profusely apologized, got the order remade correctly, rushed back 20 minutes later and even returned the tip. To my delight, I found a $25 gift card in the bag - it was Mark's idea as I later found out! As I can't redeem the gift card online for delivery, I called the restaurant a couple of weeks later and Mark happily placed the order and even dropped it off contactless on a bench outside my building. Finally no issues with the order, the Glow Bowl with Tofu was fantastic! Third time is a charm!
Flower Child's got a variety of delicious dishes and a truly wonderful and dedicated staff! So glad it opened up near...
Read morePosted this on yelp as well: In the past, I have had pleasant experiences with different servers and the food has alway been good. I appreciate the vegetarian options and the perfectly sweetened drink. Unfortunately, this recent experience has soured my opinion of this restaurant. My boyfriend and I went there last Saturday to grab some food to go. We ordered separately and as he ordered I went to fill up my drink. I did not see this happen or I would have stepped but still wanted to share as I believe micro aggressions should not be tolerated. As my partner gave his name, the server did not understand. I can understand this but even though his name is not white-sounding it is not complicated to pronounce. Her attitude is what made it worse. At first, she responded with another name (a more basic/ common name). Then, when my boyfriend explained that was not his name, instead of asking him to spell or to repeat she shrugged and wrote down the more basic name she guessed. Mind you, these were not similarly sounding, this was clearly motivated by a prejudiced belief system. There were so many better ways to treat this situation and the blatant lack of care for someone’s name makes me incredibly disappointed in how flowerchild trains their employees. Please educate your employees about how to treat someone who does not have a white sounding name, and to respect their name instead of getting annoyed and putting down something more ”palatable” to their casually racist point of view. I expected more of a seemingly progressive establishment in 2022. I hope this gets rectified and no one has to experience a micro aggression when wanting to...
Read moreWas visiting family in the Washington DC area when we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant! To say their food is healthy is an understatement. The quality and care taken to ensure that every bite does the most for your mental and physical health is evident from when you first walk in the door. Everything you see on the menu is exactly what you get! Nothing is fake or processed! The staff is very kind and friendly and we're patient with my numerous questions as this was the first time I'd ever been here. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun! We sat outside because it was a beautiful August afternoon and there was a slight breeze making it seem a bit cooler than it actually was. We each order different things and shared our bites and came to the conclusion that everything was freaking delicious! The fact that it was healthy was a lovely side benefit! As you can see from the pictures, everything is colorful and well plated. Sometimes salads can leave you feeling hungry a couple of hours later, not so at the flower child. Flavorful, feeling, and delicious! I cannot find enough adjectives to describe how much I love this place! I wish they had one closer to where I live, and will definitely pop in here the next time I'm in...
