The DoubleTree is one of our favorite hotels in the Tysons Corner area. The only thing we didn't like is that they hold $40 per night for incidentals. It doesn't really make sense to us as we stay in a lot of hotels and they are the only one that do this. But you take the good with the bad sometimes. That's life. The reason I'm writing this review is because we stayed there on Monday the 12th. Our flight was delayed two hours so I talked to the guy at the front desk to see if we could get an extension. He said that anything after the 12pm checkout time would be an additional $50. I won't go out on the limb and say "all" but most hotels that we've stayed in will allow at least an hour without any additional cost. So I asked him for the additional $50, how much extra time would we get as we only needed up to two hours and it didn't make sense to pay $50 for two hours. He said we could stay up to 4pm. Funny thing is that we've gotten extensions there before up to 1pm with no additional cost. But, we never seen the guy we encountered that day. I just remember he was wearing an orange mask. It didn't make sense to us because we only paid $100 for the room. So we have to pay half of that for 4 hours? We left at the regular checkout time and won't be going back there for a while. I'm rating the hotel experience with him a 2 because I feel he could have been nicer about it. His discretion was a clear, "no I'm not going to make it easier for you, but I'm going to make you feel like I really want to help and that I really do care by doing it in a friendly manner." Once I stayed at the Marriott in Tysons and the same thing happened with my flight. It was delayed for 4 hours and they let me stay until 4pm and I only had to pay an additional $12.99. That's what I call good service and understanding for customers that spend there money on a hotel service/experience.
Response to Soo I understand that most full service hotels authorize additional funds at the time of check in to cover incidental charges. But you guys charge $40 per night. That means if I stay there for 5 days you charge $200 for incidentals. 4 star hotels charge between 80-100$ for the same. I travel a lot and you are the only hotel that does this. That's why I added it in the review. Telling me about the elite honors membership after I felt like I didn't get the best service doesn't change the fact that I have stayed there multiple times and checked out at 1230 or 1 with no extra fee. Your response was unnecessary and not helpful but thank you for taking the time to do so. This was definitely a leave well enough...
Read moreAfter checking in at 3pm, I was given a 'pet room' after requesting a non-pet room (I have allergies). I was looking forward to their trademark cookie but sadly, no cookie or even bottled water was offered, despite my being a Hilton Diamond member :( .
Sheets and towels were clean and you can tell some things have been renovated, but you can also tell it was an older room. Room was smaller/almost cramped, carpet had stains, plenty of hot water but showerhead was older and leaked badly (and wasn't as pictured on Google Maps), and when I tried to turn the heat on it smoked so badly it set off the fire alarm within 30 seconds. [Room 515 for hotel maintenance or anyone not wishing to repeat my experience.] Luckily once I turned off the heat the fire alarm stopped within a few minutes, but the smoke and dust set off my allergies and I was stuffed up the rest of the night. Nice furniture, mirror, and entryway, ...but older shower, carpet, and heat/ac unit. Room was not what I was expecting for $150+tax, more what I would have expected for an $60-80+tax hotel for this area.
Very nice lobby, restaurant, outside sitting area with fire pit, and public areas. I didn't try the workout room or breakfast. I suspect they may be in the process of renovating the rest of their rooms, and if you are expecting the rooms to look like the advertised photos, you should definitely ask for one of their newer rooms. Also, staff were courteous and were communicative with me(+), but did not seem to communicate well internally(-)..after getting a late checkout for 2pm and asking the front desk to let housekeeping know (and having the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door), housekeeping still opened my door (it hit the swing lock) at least 4 times, and multiple times after my calling the front desk again and asking them to please communicate to housekeeping AGAIN 'do not disturb'. After checking out with the front desk at 2, the front desk called me about an hour after I left and told me there were 'things' left in my room (I didn't leave anything to my knowledge), and then informed me that there was someone still occupying my room..which seemed very odd as I had checked out and left at 2 , which I reminded them of. I'm not sure if the front desk had just gotten the wrong room or if there was some sort of horrible miscommunication between the staff. I'm glad they tried to double check, but again it seemed odd/off and not what I would expect for the rate they were charging. If you are expecting the rooms to look like the advertised photos, you should definitely ask for one of their...
Read moreI am honestly mind blown at my terrible experience at this hotel, with their hospitality, their customer service, and their management. I'm disgusted in the lack of professionalism, the way they handled a very sensitive situation, the way I was spoken to and belittled by the manager, and the lack of responsibility they took about what happened during my stay. Being a young woman traveling alone for a business trip I was completely taken advantage of and treated poorly. After explaining my situation via email to the manager, Berat Kilavuz, he did not admit that what happened was due to a lack of communication on their staff's end which affected my work as a wedding photographer on a tight schedule. At check-in nobody informed me that I would need to check back into my hotel room on day 2 because my reservation was booked through 2 different cards. Therefore I was left locked out of my room during my wedding day which lead to a series of events like actually GETTING STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR for about 8 minutes ALONE and then when I called for help on the elevator, the person just said "okay hold on" and hung up without an explanation or help to calm me down during a panic WHILE I was still on my tight schedule trying to rush back to my bride after getting locked out of my room. It was insane. The elevator ended up taking me down to floor 3 and no other elevator was getting sent down so I had to take the stairs with my heavy equipment to the 9th floor to get to my bride. I was in a complete panic and nobody apologized or wanted to help in any way... so when I complained via email, Berat actually said this... "We also verified with our Chief Engineer who was in the property at that moment and stated nothing was wrong with the elevator after they received the call and they double checked all the elevators. The reason why your key card did not work was because you made 2 separate reservations."..... Literally denying that I was stuck in a freaking elevator instead of owning up to the problem. I was in complete shock. After SEVERAL emails of explain myself and repeating myself, then just going off on this manager after getting completely belittled, he gave my $25 dollars in Hilton points (are you kidding me?) Then finally his last email offered a refund for one of the nights.
If you are a young professional, a woman, anyone traveling alone, actually anyone for that matter... I highly recommend steering clear of this hotel so that it does not ruin your trip or your...
