The reason for my 2stars come from many points of views:
#1 The wait is really long considering its a small place and it's on a1st come 1st serve basis. Which I might add I called before hand because I have a large family and it was my 1st visit to you guys and wasn't sure what your policy was like or how big your place was.If that is the case you should be mindful of the people waiting outside or in their cars to be seated and not allow people to just sit in your resturant and be on their phones for a long time and not even be eating your food.
#2 I was married to a Mexican for many yrs so knowing the culture these tacos were by far way too over priced!
#3 The quality of food was good but, not great yes it was flavorful but, at $5 a taco because you add cheese to it is a bit ridiculous a regular taco goes for $2 a taco anywhere but, because you fry these tacos n serve with consume you think its worth $4to $5 a taco? I think its highway robbery especially for those who can't afford it and live in this highly populated mid class to lower class area!!! I've had birria tacos in Paterson for 3 for $10 and it was amazing!! I know it may be the location since you are in the heart of Hudson county in union city and rent may be high but, even at that your location is not all that big and the side of the resturant you do have that is big you utilize it as your kitchen and staff side only. I don't know but, maybe you should reconsider rearranging your set up to atleast make it comfortable for your customers.
#4 Your ordering process is a bit disorganized considering we must wait outside, to then go in order to then wait once again outside for long periods of time! If that's what is working for you then you shouldn't be a dine in restaurant you should only be a take out!
#5 Will I visit again not sure but, one thing is for sure this is not a family friendly resturant! Considering I had my kids with me and we all waited a long period of time outside and even inside your menu really doesn't have any options for kid friendly foods!
Best of luck with...
Read moreFirst and foremost, thank you to amazing young, random lady who recommended this fine establishment! I was searching for something savory on a dreary, wet day. She knew the name of all the dishes and the unique name of the restaurant. The shredded beef taco that you dip into the broth was amazing but the tiny sauces on the side were my favorite, especially the green one. I also got the guacamole which was made perfectly. All in all, I enjoyed everything and plan to return just to try more items on their menu. The location of the restaurant is tough to find parking so you might be better off using Uber eats, grub hub or door dash. I drove there and double parked (not recommended). The only “improvement “ I would give the total meal was that the chips were what I was use to; maybe I got a bad batch- will try again another day. Oh I almost forgot, I got the soup of the day (which is not specified on the menu so it’s a gamble) and it was A-1! Beef soup was BUSSIN!!!! With the diced onions and cilantro, sheesh! Sorry for not providing pictures this time, I was really hungry and this place was right on target. Might go back next week to try a chicken dish. Feel free to comment to share a...
Read moreFirst time going to Chofi and I could tell it had a vibrant and welcoming environment. Staff was very friendly and the kitchen looked organized and clean. Birria tacos were good as the meat was tender and juicy. I have to say not every place makes their tortillas fresh like Chofi and you can tell the difference instantly, nice, crisp and good flavor. The Agua de jamaica was good as well. A couple of complaints, the meat on the carne norteña taco was very greasy. I had ordered 4 and couldn’t make past the second one because I tasted more oil than meat in each bite. The limes they had given us were not fresh and you noticed when I squeezed it and barely any juice came out. I had ordered 8 tacos and they only gave me 1 tiny container of salsa. For the amount I spent, I thought there would be enough salsa for my girlfriend and I. This place is not a true taqueria, it is mainly based off of its birria. Limited menu to be a taqueria, they have more agua fresca options than they do for tacos. Not just that, but afterwards the amount of grease we consumed made our stomachs upset and we could taste the tacos even...
