Juana & Gloria — Restaurant in Union City

I want to get the bad out of the way first. I do feel the prices are a bit on the expensive side by a few bucks, especially for a local restaurant. They charge NYC prices. They should also make sure the menu prices match what they charge. I was going to take a star away for the price but what I write next will explain why I didn't. The food here is absolutely delicious. I have come here for breakfast and dinner and I am never disappointed in the food. The people that work here also seem very nice. I've never had issues with the service. The ladies here seem like they are in a good mood and they are working hard. All their food is good but I want to put my focus on their beans. I am a bean loving Puerto Rican and if you are a Latino restaurant that sells beans...they better be good. Well, this place has great beans. I appreciate the flavor and consistency of the beans. There are places that give you watery or watered down beans and it is a practice that I look down on because these places don't respect the details of the beans. As for my favorite dish, I am a simple guy and I enjoy their breaded chicken with rice and beans. I will also say that their version of arroz moro is absolutely great. So yes it is a bit more expensive but the richness of the food and the portions that you get will certainly make it more palatable. For this reason, I did not take...

I visited Juani Gloria with high hopes, but unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. I ordered a cake and, noticing that the cakes for $5 were quite small, I politely asked the staff member if I could get the biggest one available. To my surprise, instead of a helpful response, I was snapped at with an attitude, told that all the cakes were the same size, and that there was no difference between them.

It’s frustrating to be treated this way, especially when you're simply trying to make sure you're getting your money’s worth. The cakes are overpriced for their size, and the service was far from friendly. I expected a lot more for the price and from a business with a reputation like this. Cons Garlic Sauce was too Vingery. Plantains was Cold and Basic Flavor Standards. Maybe season them with Cinnamon and Honey to take it up a notch. The Majarete pudding was too watery and expensive for it's portion size. Sangria was HORRIBLE and it was done by the Owner according to my server. The Sangria was Overpriced for the lack of Flavor of $30.00. I had to purchase 2 Shots of Dark Rum and 2 Shots of Brandy with Passion Fruit Juice to give it some Flavor. I was so Disappointed that the Sangria was that bad it tasted like if they opened up a Bottle of Red Blend Bottle and poured it in my pitcher. Masitas de Cerdo Frito needs more Flavor.
