In response to response: NOBODY ELSE HAD GRATUITY APPLIED. NOBODY. IVE NEVER NOT TIPPED, BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCED A RUDE WAITRESS THERE BEFORE. Like I said: YOU WIN!!! I won't come back.
[Feel free to replace text with the "R" word wherever you'd like in this review, because that was my lived experience... then hide behind policy that isn't evenly applied to the white patrons... a policy "may be applied" only to POC and at prejudicial discretion, so it makes the wait staff look kind of racist... there i said it afyer long consideretion to articulate so]
After 4 years of coming to this neighborhood restaurant, and I mean since the days when the patio was across 16th street at the lofts during pandemic social distancing, too. TODAY I felt like I was not treated the same as other customers!
And I mean in the "singled-out" type of way - other customers did NOT receive the same treatment for the same service by the same server.
The rules here are very selective, and they weren't applied the same way that appears highly... discriminatory. TO BE CLEAR: the central park Amy didn't do to any of those white customers what she solely did to ME. And then tried to say that she did, when no white customer could confirm, and they had to check. She made an assumption of ME and prejudged only me.
I live in the neighborhood. I've been coming here since your pandemic soft-opening. But if I have to feel bad because I experienced your bigoted waitress, then this restaurant should feel bad knowing that everyone else is reading about your prejudicial wait staff treated the ONE person of color that spent money on your overpriced meal was treated differently than anyone else who witnessed me being treated differently than them by said waitress; and then everyone there hear her explain to my why I was singled-out, and those customers didn't like it either because the same rule didn't apply to them.
And for that, the previous 5 stars I gave to this place have been changed to a lower rating. I won't come back (you win!!!!), and I won't recommend anyone to come, and I won't bring my guests anymore to this business either.
The experience posted to IG or to tiktok sounds like a good idea, too. The meals are overpriced for what you get anyway; and WAY too much for feeling like I was singled-out after 4 years of patronage. There's neighborhood businesses also in walking distance who are happy with my repeat business and my dollars.
Enjoy the whitewash, everyone...
Read moreNot only was Morgan short in tone, she was tall in absolutes. Her friend seated next to us was sure to get the royal treatment: she shared his full name, back story, and brought out multiple appetizers and entrees per his order. Unfortunately, my friend and I only got half-heard requests and snide remarks. Sure; her dirty martinis are par for the course and the food resembles farm-to-table - as it should, for the price and narrative. However, Morgan was a travesty of an experience: after describing to her that my friend had a limited diet and was uninterested in meats outside of chicken, and working with Morgan to subsequently order a chicken burger (which her bff had ordered seated beside us; which was clearly referenced), she proceeded to serve a regular burger which my friend was not keen on eating despite being hungry. Morgan gave us the runaround, blaming the misunderstanding on us for using the term burger instead of sandwich, which is apparently an important distinction despite the fact that she helped us arrive at the conclusion that both looked exactly like a traditional burger less the type of meat used - and the fact that she had participated in brainstorming a solution for us after we communicated my friend preferred chicken over all other meats. Wow, what a gaslighting experience. To recall another patron’s life story but forget our pair’s food sensitivities. Paid $130 for a nasty attitude for a subpar tip. Morgan, just own up to your mistakes in the future for your customers; it’s not coming out of pocket directly, and it will protect the overall customer experience. I typically tip 25% on poor service but can’t accept blatant gaslighting. Not only did she serve a mistake, but was sure to inquire that the tip was accurate before we left before rolling her eyes like a prepubescent teen. Might come back again as I’m a local, but will make sure to ask for a non-Morgan...
Read moreDelicious, NYC-quality, family-friendly, and socially distanced restaurant with outdoor heated seating in our own backyard! As the weather gets colder, my family and I feel less motivated to go out for dinner but also hate feeling like we have to cook every day. However, Fork Hill Kitchen, a restaurant located at 201 16th St. in Union City, has been our savior! It's our go-to restaurant for it's nearby location, convenient take-out and delivery options, and socially-distanced indoor/outdoor (heated) seating that makes us feel like we have a safe place to go for excellent food and service during the pandemic.
The menu is carefully selected by Executive Chef Eric who changes the menu according to what's in season while also keeping a few staples throughout the year (my favorite is the spicy chicken sandwich...hits the spot every time). The ambiance is modern and intimate and it's the kind of place where we stop by to say hello to the warm and welcoming owners (Ed and Brenda) and staff whenever we pass by! Our 4 year old son feels like he's visiting family when we go visit because Ed and Brenda always stop by to chat with him (and us) and give him snicker doodle cookies all the time (which are also to die for by the way!) Who needs NYC when you have a NYC-level restaurant + more personalized in your own backyard?
We love supporting family-owned small businesses and hope others will also support this lovely restaurant...it's one of Union City's best kept secrets! (Took the picture in the early fall; the outdoor seating is still available both in front of the restaurant as well as across the street when it's busy, which does not appear in...
