Great place for Vietnamese food here in Union Township!
Front end staff are so caring and attentive, I love the way this place feels, from their smiles and appreciation to the music playing in the background, very low but the kind of tunes that make it a great casual place.
We stopped in to eat about 1845, so it was prime time for dinner. Most tables were filled with customers, which is always a good sign, but there were still two tables available, so we were quickly seated and handled menus.
We ordered spring rolls and chicken wings with a spicy fish sauce (but it's not really spicy at all, and that's coming from a white guy). While the spring rolls were ok, the chicken wings with the fish sauce were Fantastic!!! For entrees we order a small Pho and a small stew (pork based). The Pho was a very large serving, don't be surprised if you can't finish it all and end up taking some home, but it was absolutely a get bowl of Pho. As for the stew, it had a lot of pork and just the right amount of spice for me, only because i told them that I'm a whimp and can't take a lot of spice, they toned it down for me, which was just to my liking.
Only two things that detract from a 5 Star rating: 1- the lighting. This place was super Brite, like they probably had twice the amount of 5,000 Kelvin lamps that they really needed. IMHO they should do 3,500 or less to give it a more intimate feel, instead of the 'school lunch room vibe' 2- napkins: while it's great that each table has a paper napkin holder, any time you're serving 'finger-foods' like chicken wings, particularly when the wings are covered with a most delicious fish sauce, it going to mean that you'll be wiping down often. It just seems like if they had larger, thicker napkins it would have made for a better experience after eating chicken wings.
Those two items aside, I can't wait to go back here, between the great food and awesome table service, this is one of our...
Read moreMy partner and I brought her relative to experience Vietnamese cuisine and specifically Pho . We had a reservation just in case but when we entered the establishment there was no wait and were seated immediately. The server was so attentive and explained the menu to us especially for the one individual who never frequented there before . We ordered two appetizers and three chicken pho and it was so delicious and fresh . We didn't have to ask for our beverages to be replenished as the wait staff were so attentive and ensured our drinks were filled and always inquired if we needed anything and upon receiving our meals how everything was . To bring someone to the establishment you always expect for the experience to be the same as your previous visit and honestly it was even better than my last visit and the service was amazing and the quality of the food we received was perfect . My last visit I had ordered the same pho but ordered a Thai tea as it is my favorite and I was immediately sick afterwords I'm not sure if it was from the milk or cream that was maybe spoiled but I avoided that beverage on this visit . The individual who was with us enjoyed her first time experience and will frequent the...
Read moreIt is awesome to have a decent Vietnamese restaurant right in the downtown of Union!
We have been looking at the spot on the corner with a four-way sign for what feels like a whole year waiting for it to open, so it’s nice to see that despite the COVID-19 craziness they have still been able to actually open.
My go-to’s at Vietnamese restaurants are pretty much the pho, and sometimes the avocado smoothies and also the occasional Vietnamese iced coffee.
For the pho I really prefer a richer, somewhat fatty or broth, so to that end this one was only OK. It may satisfy your pho craving if you are not looking to drive further but it is not my preference at all, I actually prefer the broth at Binh Duong II in Hillside (btw note that my friend unfortunately found a cockroach in their food at Bing Duong II when ordering within the last few months which naturally has me skeeved out).
The Vietnamese coffee here does the trick and I’ve sometimes ordered just this for pick up.
In sum: it’s nice to have a Vietnamese place in town, I would drop by again for the Vietnamese iced coffee, and probably to try some of their pork chop vermicelli dishes to see if those are similar at all to my favorite Vietnamese restaurants...
