Let's begin with the phone call to order, I called ahead because they say somethings are made fresh. The call was answered and the gentleman said hold on 1 second. He put the phone down and left me on hold for 8 minutes, I had enough time to drive there park and walk in as he finished discussing painting and doing it himself. I said u can hang up the phone cause I'm here now, he apologized and states he does that all the time unknowingly. Ok no big deal, cause he was pleasant. I begin to order he told me the price of 4 wings was wrong on the menu, it says $10.00 but it's $12.00,I said sir a bag of wing flings don't cost that much. But ok im giving this place a try so maybe the quality will be worth it. I order a dark chicken dinner and a vegetarian plate. The veg plate was Mac and cheese, yams, and string beans. The chicken dinner was mac and cheese, and collard greens. Now I'm waiting for my order. And there is another woman in there who also it is her 1st time there. We are chatting and all is well and the the owner comes in, he is sweaty like he just ran a mile. He doesn't greet anybody hes just looking in your face. He proceeds to get ice for his water bottle,I don't see him wash his hands or even wipe his face, He might have but I didn't see him and I was looking at everything. I don't care if you are the owner greet the customers and letting people see you wash your hands is a bonus. Meanwhile the gentleman that took my order I don't know his name because he wasn't wearing an ID I asked if he was the only one there he said no Katherine was coming in shortly. Well Catherine came in she didn't seem too pleasant she didn't say hello to anybody. I don't understand there were so many 1st time customers in there but that place just seems not connected asidefrom the gentleman taking orders. I will tell you I was in there about half an hour waiting for this food, now to review the food. Truth is for the amount of money the food costs it "ok" food. I could have made it at home. Truth is I always try to support black owned business, but for the almost $50 I spent , they need to try harder. For the veg plate most places make the Mac and cheese your main item, He really tried to give me yams as the main part of that meal I said that's not what I want. That's why I specifically asked you in the beginning if I could have Mac and cheese he said oh we don't do it like that here you don't think I'm gonna spend over $12.00 for yams do you? The chicken was fried hard so it was extra crispy that was great but this seasoning was nothing to run home and tell mama about. The string beans were good the Mac and cheese was OK I don't know about the corn bread because it doesn't come with the dinner. Truth be told I couldn't wait to try this place since it opened over here in this area but I most likely will not be going back one...
Read moreIf I could give this place a 0 I would. When I first walked in I wasn’t greeted. The restaurant was like a ghost town inside and I see why. This food is DISGUSTING! I ordered the fried catfish lunch dinner which comes with two sides. I got the collard greens w/ cabbage mixed along with macaroni and cheese. I also purchased an uptown as my drink which is lemonade and iced tea mixed. First thing that caught my eye was their prices inside on the menu are at least $4 cheaper than online which is ridiculous because we are ordering from THEIR WEBSITE! I received my food and the temperature of the food was good. I then checked my bag because I assumed I would receive a complimentary piece of cornbread due to the fact that it was not available for purchase online. There was no cornbread inside. I then saw on the menu that it would be $1.99 to purchase. I requested a piece, the gentleman rang me up and as I proceed to pay via Apple Pay he then tells me that there’s a $10 minimum to use a card which was nowhere listed in the restaurant. I showed him that it was not available for purchase online and he allowed me to use my card. Fast forward I look at my food and the portion size for $20 was a joke! The tray was literally the size of my hand. As per their menu I was to receive 2 pieces of catfish with my lunch sized portion. I received ONE cut up piece of catfish along with a scoop of macaroni and cheese and a scoop of vegetables. The catfish was soaked in grease. Once I ate a piece of it, it made me feel instantly nauseous. The collard greens and cabbage mix was decent even though it tasted like canned vegetables that they decided to add seasonings too. The cornbread was decent but dry. The macaroni and cheese was literally disgusting. I have never in my life had macaroni and cheese that I could not even bare to swallow until today. Absolutely HORRIBLE. The smell was horrible, it’s like they used cheap cheese and cheap ingredients all around. The last thing that I had to look forward to was my drink because in my mind how can you not correctly make an uptown right? Boy was I wrong. Even this was terrible. It had and aftertaste that literally tasted like maple syrup! I was so excited for this food today. I left my office to go pick it up and thought I was going to have a good lunch break. I said this to say my lunch break was ruined! I literally feel nauseous still as I write this. Anyone who has ever had real authentic soul food would know that...
Read moreSoon as I walked in I felt unwelcome he looked down saw my 2 year-old and said oh you can take her back over there to sit down by the door immediately I can tell that my child was being a problem for him so I decided to stay the waiter started to seat us and the same man from earlier said (don't sit there it's too close to the flower light and she might knock it over). that item it was two tables away I was confused why he thought that but I just let it go
We finally sit down and they're hovering there were only one other party of people eating in the entire restaurant
I ordered my food and when we got there he told the waiter oh not the set my daughter's food in front of her.
So I ask why he said (oh she might throw the plate) I told him my daughter is potty trained and she does not throw place at her own house so. He had the waiter bring my child a saucer then he changed his mind tried to take the saucer back going to say it'll be easier for her to eat out of a styrofoam box. I just want then to go away i want to just eat my food but they still was hovering trying to start conversation but I just want to eat. Then in his attempt to be a part of my dinner I guess he said something to my daughter and she started to cry I told him she was going to cry. I really wanted to say could you just leave us alone and let us eat but I didn't put my food in a little to go basket that was already on my table since my daughter cant eat out of a plate according to him and I paid for my food but that wasn't the last thing that happened my food was roughly $23 I handed the waiter $25 and not only did not bring me my change he did not bring me a receipt so the whole thing was irritating if I could give the restaurant advice I would say don't hover over your customers while they're eating and keep your opinions to yourself about what you think or don't think a child might do all children are not the same and I resent the fact that you assume that my child was a problem child...
