Went with friends during the soft opening. The staff was friendly and the ambiance and decor fit with an upscale experince
You may be going to a wine bar for multiple reasons. For me, it's to have access to a curated selection of wines typically unavailable at PA state stores.
The staff indicated the wines were brought in specially and generally not available at stores, but did not have any advice on selection or why the specific wines were chosen. This probably can be corrected given enough time for the staff to be trained, but I was surprised there was not written guidance they could share.
Additionally, when flights were brought out it was not clear which wine was which, even though a card was provided with the list. The flights were served on a nice metal holder with wines at different heights that would have allowed easy ordering, but this was seemingly only done with one of the four flights.
The other reason for the three star review was that they did not seem to be well stocked and already out of multiple wines on the menu. Again, it was early on, so hard to say if it was related to the holidays and soft opening.
Overall, I'd recommend giving Apercina a shot, especially after it's more established. If it can bring some unique expertise/guidance on wine selection it could be a great addition...
Read morePerfect place for enjoying a wine night with friends 👯♀️🍷 A group of ladies & I all really enjoyed our recent Friday night at Apericena celebrating Siena Light Night 2021.
If you're a newbie to wine or an expert Apericena has the wine list for you. It might just be the longest by the glass list in Pittsburgh, with 35 choices! I highly recommend Apericena for discovering & trying new wines. They even have seasonal flights that are great for expanding your wine palate. The flights are served in a beautiful tower presentation, so be sure you get in your photos.
The bar itself is also very instagrammable with visually interesting design elements like backlit glass storage, trendy wallpaper, wine storage built-ins and a chic white stone bar.
Beyond the wine and the ambiance Apericena also offers cocktails, beer, small plates, snacks, charcuterie and flatbreads.
Apericena often hosts local musicians for live entertainment. There is also an outdoor fountain and a seating area to enjoy.
Highly recommend indulging in a night...
Read moreRelatively new wine bar. It has a nice sekection of wines by the bottle and the glass and also a small menu if you want some nibbles to go with your drinks. They also offer wine flights of either three or four 2 ounce portions of any of the wines they sell by the glass.
The space is nice and it's quiet so you can speak with your party without screaming over the piped in muzak. So, why only a three star rating? Two reasons really. First, it is very pricey with a glass of wine averaging almost $15. Secondly, our waitress was significantly clueless about their food offerings. I asked about the cheeses on their plate and was told they come in big blocks from the Whole Foods across the way. When i asked about the label, she told me that the 16 year old operating the kitchen would not know. Really? Not know how to read a label?
That whole interaction really soured the whole experience for us. Then we had to ask for more crackers from the same waitress and waited over 10 minutes for...
