Valpo Pour House — Restaurant in Valparaiso

This is the first bar I've been to where it is self serve. The neat part is you give a credit card to the front, they give you a card to access the taps. There are glasses of all sizes to use, the taps have a digital display which is touch screen that provides all the information, description and price per oz of the beverage. Once you put your pour House card on the display, pour your beverage and watch the price meter rise as if you were pumping gas. It's all pretty neat. This place is packed and when you're ready to leave with your real credit card, you give them your pour House card and they charge you for what you have talleyed up. It's fun! Do you like beer and don't want to wait for a server when your glass is empty? If so, this place is for you! They have about 20 beers on tap and you get up and refill your own beer at their tap wall. They give you a card and charge you by the ounce. The cool thing about that is if you're not sure you'll like one, but want to try it... just pour yourself 1 oz. and move on to something else if you don't like it. I would have given Valpo Pour House a 5 star rating, but the atmosphere is missing something. I can't put my finger on it, but it could be more cozy or more hip or something. Atmosphere is relaxed which is great. Decent beer selection, wasted taps on domestic light beers IMO. Get rid of Yuengling, Miller Lite, Bud Light, etc. put on some local pilsners, and more regional beers as well as another cider option. There definitely needs to be a large display of the available beers as it's hard for people to huddle around the little screens you have to touch to get a description are difficult to read when the taps are crowded.
