I went here for breakfast. I backed my crown Victoria into a parking spot right in front of the building....very slowly. Expecting the tires to hit the walk way in front of the building like they always do.
When I felt them touch the walkway I parked.
Immediately a woman comes out saying I just drove into the building....I am shocked and apologize.
After sitting there a moment embarrassed as all hell....I mean she looked at me like I was some kind of degenerate. I get out to look at my car and the building. No sign of anything touching anything.
Then some guy walks up to me. He looks to me like he's homeless. So I offer him some money. He starts asking me if I'm okay.
I tell him. Some lady just said I hit the building but I don't think I did. I am embarrassed. I came here hungry. But now I feel like I should just leave.
He assures me I didn't hit the building at all. He says if I did there would be marks. And I thank him for confirming.
He says, "it's better if you do leave so these women don't freak out."
What? I am a good customer. Just got off of work. Graveyard. Hungry is all I am. I came here to eat.
But instead I was embarrassed by what must be a waitress I expect. Who treated me like scum of the earth before I even said a word. Accused me of what I and the guy both affirm never happened.
For its credit this place has a good menu. And almost fair prices in a city I am new to that doesn't sell any food for what a working man can afford.
But the waitress? Ugh...I tip well and eat out rarely because I do. I'd rather eat somewhere where the sidewalk isn't so short it's possible to back a crown Victoria into...
Read moreWe went in search of a diner for breakfast today in or near our neighborhood. We recently moved into a house a bit off Fourth Plain. Lucky find! The Plainsman has outstanding service and food. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and pays attention to its customers, checking back with them as needed. Our server was such a pleasure (I wish I remembered her name!!! She was great, I hope she sees this review). She explained the specials we had missed on the way in, and answered our questions. I had one of the specials -- avocado, tomato, bacon, and cheese omelet with hashbrowns and toast from homemade bread. I also ordered a single big pancake because I wanted to try it. That was the best pancake I have had in a restaurant in a very long time! And the omelet, hashbrowns, and toast were excellent. My companion had the Eggs Benedict with sliced avocado and hashbrowns -- loved it. Not only was all the food very fresh, it was FREASHLY PREPARED -- there's no food sitting under heat lamps for hours in The Plainsman's kitchen! And it looked as delicious as it tasted, the food was placed nicely on the plates and served with care. The interior of the restaurant is clean and neat. Interesting Americana decor on the walls, but not too much so as to make the place look cluttered; it was tidy all the way. Obviously care and effort is taken to keep this place clean and appetizing -- no dirt, grime, grease, or cobwebs hanging off the decor or furniture, tables and everything on them clean. We loved the breakfast food and service at The Plainsman and will be back to...
Read moreSo let me start this whole rant by saying that I’ve worked in the food industry as a cook for over 20 years, 10 of which was at breakfast restaurants. That being said here we go. This was one of the worst breakfast I’ve ever paid for. The food was most definitely old, which is just weird to serve old food on a Saturday morning. The bacon was obviously cooked if not one maybe even two days prior, which is normal for a lot of breakfast restaurants but you don’t put those sides of bacon. You put those in scrambles and stuff like that. Bacon that was absolutely stoned cold as a side. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, the gravy was made, but the biscuits were nearly petrified. I had to use a knife to cut through the biscuits that’s how old and dried out there were. it was like breaking open and old rock that like crumbled and sticking it in your mouth, multiple days as well. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. This was extremely hard dried out piece of food. if I can give zero stars for the food I would. Whoever runs there should be fired because you’re not doing your customers any favor. Service they were nice enough. Definitely the best part about the whole experience was just the customers at the counter, old men that really wanted to chat while you were waiting to be seated. Over, I would say to...
