Canton Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Venice

After a long day at Caspersen Beach, my husband decided he wanted a dinner in rather than out, so we were excited to find this Chinese takeaway near our motel. We ordered the wonton soup, the pu pu platter, Yung Chow Fried Rice, and Pork Lo Mein. The soup was the best wonton soup we've had in a long time-- a great, flavorful broth and a nice bit of meat in each wonton. The pu pu platter and lo mein were good, too. The real shining star was the rice. We have not had fried rice that good since we left London. We're not sure what it is (we think it must be the oil they use), but truly, the best fried rice we have ever had in this country in the 19 years since we left the UK. We are planning a trip back to the area next fall, and we WILL eat at Canton again. In fact, we'll be driving down for that trip and plan on bringing a cooler so we can take some of the rice home and stick it in the freezer (yes, we really thought it was THAT good). Nice folks, fast service (we walked in to order and had our food within 10 minutes on a Saturday night), and truly excellent...

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. TERRIBLE FOOD. No flavor! We spent over $50 on delivery and none of it was up to expectations. The Beef in Garlic Sauce; It was 98% mixed vegetables (mostly green pepper and broccoli) and there was only a tiny amount of beef… I had to dig through the cheap veggies to find any beef. I’ve ordered this dish many times. It’s supposed to be 70%-80% beef. The sauce was sour and bland all at the same time… yes, it’s possible! LOL! This is listed as a spicy dish on the menu… NO SPICE AT ALL! Your cooks should try tasting the food sometime. No balance of flavors, and mostly no flavor at all. You should know what you are selling.

The Chinese Baby Eggplant in garlic sauce was 98% mixed vegetables and no eggplant! Not even good vegetables but all green pepper, celery and broccoli. I had to dig to find the few tiny pieces of eggplant, I was so disappointed! I’ve ordered this dish in a dozen restaurants and it’s supposed to be ALL EGGPLANT with just some garlic and yellow onion in a spicy garlic sauce. This sucked. Very...

So disappointing! Have taken out from here a few times and liked the food. Not tonight! I ordered chicken with eggplant, which is what I always order from there. Well I got chicken with vegetables in garlic sauce. I called and the owner told me I got what I ordered! I did not! No apologies. He said he would have told me that if I said eggplant he would have told me no. That's a lie. Also higher prices and less food. And there was a terrible odor to all the food. I think it was bad oil, but not sure. Everything had that smell. So, we will be ordering from China Taste, our usual spot. Food is good, they did up their pricing, but did NOT cut back...
