I wanted Longet to be a success and I still do! I have been to France many times and I am a foodie and a chef. The food failed. There was nothing french about any of the food. I know what beef bourguignon is supposed to taste like. This was a small piece of pot roast with some red wine thrown in. The flavors where not developed. It was 75% fat with grease covering the bowl. You could get it at any diner from a crockpot. If hadn't been the guest of my parents friends, I would have sent it back. The first baguette was heavy and soggy, not french quality. The second was a little better but still grocery store. The escargot were fine. They are impossible to mess up. You take them out of the can and put them in garlic butter and herbs. Done. The other meals at the table were not special. Just ok. The other beef dish was called a lame shepherds pie. I have been to Michelin restaurants all over the world. And know James Beard quality and this was not even close. That being said , I hope that they pull it together and do better. Maybe the people of Venice do not have a discerning palate and having a fancy name and a sleek atmosphere are enough, but if you have the skills, use them, procure quality ingredients and make it more than just a french name. My family has been in Venice over fifty years and they...
Read moreWent for my mother‘s birthday this evening. Had wanted to go to their previous location, though we’re not able to get in prior to them closing. Was very excited about going this evening. I emailed the Friday before they started taking reservations, asking when I would be able to make a reservation on Sunday, when reservations opened. The next day I received a confirmation for my reservation. Was very impressed with that level of customer service. Arrived, hostess was very polite and kind, seated right away,. When ordering my entrée, the duck, I asked if there were any raw onions due to an allergy. The server responded no, with almost an eye roll. We were not even halfway through our cocktails, when asked what we would like for our next one. Our bread arrived and was told that part was for the starter we ordered as well. Not a big deal, just felt a little unnecessary. Then our entrées arrived. My mother’s was excellent. However, my duck was so tough I sent it back, and although my father did eat his duck as well, he could not chew half of it. The server said that she had passed on my concerns about the duck, however, the chef and obviously a member of management walked past our table 3 times not once addressing the issue. Cocktails are excellent, everything else not...
Read moreWonderful new place to dine in Venice. My wife and I just had a great time last night at Longet. Our reservations was for 7 and we arrived 5 minutes early and we were seated right away. It was a wonderful table for two set and ready for us. We started with cocktails and they were wonderfully created and presented very quickly. We had already looked at the menu online at Longet's website and were looking forward to a fine evening. We ordered the Beef Casppochio for our starter and loved it. Served with wonderful rustic bread crunchy crust with soft and airy middle. My wife ordered the Asparagus Risotto with seared Scallops, perfection. I tried the Beef Bourguignon with Ratatouille. Everything was perfectly executed and the meal was a true delight. We finished with dessert, a cocoa creme brulee and my wife has a very interesting Pistachio Lava Cake and it is way different then you would think. It is a wonderful reinterpretation of the old standard and it was really a tasty treat. The restaurant is fresh and modern in decor, fine linens on the table and fresh cut flowers on the table. This is a fine addition to Venice Ave and I hope this place has a long...
