I'll be back again, but my first experience leaves me with mixed feelings. The food, space, and staff are lovely. They work hard which I tried to take into consideration with the counter service ordering & automatic 20% service charge. I'm all about tipping, but instead of a mandatory 20% it should be less due a non full service experience, IMHO. I don't understand the philosophy behind this. We're already paying premium prices for the quality of food and downtown locale. I sincerely hope the mandatory service charge is going to the full staff equally. It was also frustrating to wait 50+ minutes for 2 pizzas and watch people who ordered after us receiving their meals in full. This probably bummed me out more than the mandatory service charge. We had a 7:45pm reservation - it was busy, but not full and tables were clearing out. So not sure why our mains came out so late. We did get a free baguette at the end of the night which was kind of them to offer.

A GEM in Downtown Ventura 💎🌊 As a native New Yorker, I’m blown away by the food scene and quality ingredients here in Ventura and Pinyon is truly something special. ⭐️ You can feel the love, care, and attention to detail in everything they make. I recently moved to the neighborhood and have already been back twice. It’s quickly becoming a favorite. 🤍 ✨ For breakfast, the breakfast sandwich (added avocado 🥑) was perfect — crispy, melty, and packed with flavor. And the pastries? Insane! ✨ For dinner, I ordered The Emily Alba and the New York cheesecake 🍰 both were absolutely delicious. Both visits were to-go, but I can't wait to dine in soon and experience it all in person. Big thanks to the Pinyon team! Your passion and craft really shine through. Welcome to Ventura 👏💛

Pinyon is the real deal. The menu changes around what's fresh and in season. Daily specials are always worth checking. There is a huge emphasis on organic, high-quality ingredients sourced from local farms. Their sourdough loaves, bagels, and hearth bread are to die for. They have a rotating selection of natural wines. Everything, down to their ranch, is made in-house and or cooked fresh in their wood-fired oven. The courtyard provides wonderful ambiance and protection from the wind. The Ventura-only gluten-free cheesecake is bomb. Reservations may be easiest if dining at peak time at the Ventura location.

Before you read, this was written by committee, asking our table of 12 to complete a mad lib with as many positive and loving words as possible. Because this food is amazing and will change your life:

Well, I finally dragged myself over to pinyon pizza in Ventura, and wow, what an experience. I can only liken it to the best taking back Sunday concert of all time. The bathroom was so loving that I almost wondered if I walked into a different restaurant by mistake.

I went for their famous sourdough pizza, and honestly, it was delectable and saucy and chewy. The crust was crusty and artisanal and glutinous, and the wine was so artisanal that I briefly considered calling the cops. The sauce reminded me that flavor still exists somewhere in this world.

The staff? Oh, they were saucy too — which somehow added to the whole vibe. I left feeling pure adrenaline.

If you want a bonerific pizza experience that makes you question your taste buds in the best way, pinyon is definitely worth the detour. I’ll probably be back for more finger opening and...
