Vernal Brewing Co is a good place to grab some decent food and beer. They have a big selection of beer on tap (which shouldn't surprise you) and a pretty decent menu as well. It's kid friendly and families are welcome. The building is very cool and they have a nice garden area in the back where you can sit and sip on a beer while your kids play connect four with the giant version of the game.
We went on a weekend and they were pretty busy. The service was good. Our waitress was very kind and patient with our table. We ordered the Reuben and Cheesesteak. Both were good but there's room for improvement. The Reuben didn't have thousand island dressing on it which threw me for a loop. However, the pastrami was nice and tender. The onion rings were really good too......and I would recommend you get them. The cheesesteak had chunks of steak rather than thin slices and the cheese wasn't the classic philly cheesesteak cheese. We ordered the sweet potato fries with this sandwich and they were okay. Some were really crunchy and others were soggy.
I ordered a jalapeno infused beer which was really good......and not what you expect in a beer. If you don't like spice, I would avoid this one. The spice wasn't painful. It added a lot of flavor to the beer. We also ordered a honey kolsch which was very tasty. My all time favorite beer here is She's a peach. You can't go wrong with this one.
I'd say prices are a little steep but it's a gastropub so what do you expect? Expect to pay around $20 per plate.
We enjoyed our visit at Vernal Brewing and will return the next time...
Read moreTried telling me I had to order food by law when I wasn't even ordering alcohol, all I wanted was a diet coke, that was after the 15 minute wait on a slow Saturday afternoon because the servers were too busy talking at the register and cleaning empty tables (not the dirty one we were sat at though) while there were people at the bar clearly drinking alcohol with no food in sight! FYI for the rude servers in future, Utah's liquor laws apply to beers, wines and spirits, not to soda!
To respond to said Owner: You must have me confused with someone else because I never ordered an alcoholic beverage, I never got as far to sat what beverage I wanted to drink (certainly not the .50 caliber IPA you ASSume I wanted), all I said was that I wasn't going to eat, just wanted a drink. Also the person I observed, walked in approximately at the same time, sat down and ordered a beer, no food was ever ordered. You said I was seated immediately but yet I stood there waiting and waiting before finally taking a table myself, it then took some time for any employee (owner or otherwise) to even acknowledge I was sitting there. As for a busy cleaning tables? Stood around the register gossiping is hardly "busy cleaning tables". It's a bad review, it happens, your service sucked, your servers lied (as do you), move on and get over it...
Read moreWe snagged the charcuterie board of mixed meats, cheeses, onions, spreads, pickles and olives. We all loved the meats and cheeses! I claimed anything that was pickled or brined. We tried the various handcrafted sodas and we liked the Rootbeer the best. The kids pizza was huge, my child said it was a bit plain, which cracked me up because it was only cheese (I guess we're used to toppings). The small macaroni and cheese was solid. I liked that even the the kids grilled cheese was a large portion (a full thick sandwich) and a small cup of soup with basil oil and parm on top. My husband adored his VB burger with the candied bacon and yummy onions, and some of the best sweet potato fries either of us had ever tried. I enjoyed my shrimp and grits immensely even though the shrimp we're slightly over cooked (not enough to say something) and the grits slightly drier than the way I love. The creole sauce was yummy. The chocolate peanut skillet cookie was good. We were bummed the strawberry pastry was out. Next time we'll try that. I thought the service, ambiance and feel was fantastic! We'd recommend it to anyone and come back for sure even though it was on the pricier side. It's a farm to table style restaurant so many of the items were from the garden or...
