My wife and I had not been here since the pandemic; so we were somewhat eager to have lunch here. In a word, things have changed and not necessarily for the better. My wife ordered some kind of fried chicken wrap; I ordered the mistake of the decade, fish tacos. They brought out the usual tortillas and salsa, which turned out to be the highlight of the meal. Her fried chicken wraps were marginally edible. She asked for a take out box, since she couldn’t eat so much. I smelled my fish taco entree before the waiter (who was great) arrived at our table - never a good thing. Due to my meal, and plate, being so hot, I ate my small salad first. After about 10 minutes, my tacos were cool enough to eat, along with my rice and refried beans. My first bite of the fish tacos was one of life’s big disappointments. The mahi-mahi tasted exactly like it smelled - BAD! And despite my wishes, it didn’t improve! My wife finally finished her meal, which she described as being mediocre and I asked for our check. I informed him that the fish tacos were not good and I refused to eat more than the three bites I had already eaten - for fear of getting sick. I informed him that he should tell the manager because the fish was not fresh and might make people sick. After about 10 - 15 minutes the waiter returned with the check. I’m not sure how he figured the bill, but it appeared I was given some credit for the bad fish. Anyway, I did eat most of the salad, some of the beans and rice. So…I had little issue with paying for what I ate. But, and you need to pay attention…a first class restaurant would have comped me for my entire meal, apologized for the bad meal and given me a pass for a free future meal. But, since this is Zero Beach and there are very few, if any first class restaurants in town, I guess the manager felt he had to get paid for something, so he charged me for the rice and overcooked beans. We won’t be back to this restaurant any time soon and I hesitate to condemn it for others. But it was a lousy meal. It’s not hard at all to make good fish tacos. Someone needs to share the recipe with Ay Jalisco -...
Read moreAye Jaliscos on 20th, across from St. Helens.... I grew up eating truly authentic south of the border meals all my life on the west coast. When we moved here, first thing we did was try anything that looked remotely Mexican and since we were used to the flavor rich west coast mex made from scratch nothing in Vero cut it. At the time, I tried the Chile Rellano from Aye Jaliscos and I was horrified cause as other reviewers here stated it wasn't anything resembling a chile Rellano. Instead it was kinda like a scrambled egg with cheese and Ortega chiles. That was enough for me to run in the other direction. A few years later desperate for some Mexican we gave it another shot and I ordered the Fish Tacos. Delicious!!!! I love a good fish taco and I was thrilled to find that their version was pretty darn good. About a year ago my West Coast mom was out visiting and she was craving some Mexican. Of course my mom wanted the Chile Rellano and I said "no way mom, it's not a real chile Rellano." The waitress heard me and asked what kind of Chile Rellano we were used to and I explained that the only kind they serve out west and in Mexico was a whole poblano pepper, stuffed with cheese, battered and fried topped with sauce. The waitress explained that they had that there but that called them "Mexican Chile Rellanos". That version of the Chile Rellano is wonderful! I wish they would serve those to all customers by default and just get rid of the "American Chile Rellano". Anybody that is ordering a chile Rellano expects the real deal and will be horrified to get a scrambled egg with cheese and Ortega chiles. I think they may serve the American Chile Rellenos to Gringos (like me) or anyone that doesn't look Mexican so just make sure to specify that you want a poblano stuffed chile Rellano. 😊 We love this place now. Super Nachos are yummy and my husband loves all the steak plates he orders. Good food,...
Read moreUnfortunately, we ordered and only ate the chips and salsa. The relleno was slimy, like it had gone bad. The rice wasn’t cooked all the way in some places and burnt on the top. Steak quesadilla meat was soaked with tequila and had no other seasonings. I’m not a drinker, so it was very off-putting, as if the liquor wasn’t cooked off in the cooking process.
The main issue, was the cheese. Cheddar. Yellow cheddar in and on everything. I have never had yellow cheddar cheese at an authentic Mexican restaurant. Ever. Taco Bell, yes.
(Pick three combo) The mole wasn’t right, the tamale tasted like freezer burn. The chicken was frozen in places and so dry and chewy. Microwave?
We give up. We’d be more than happy to drive to Fellsmere. Vero citizens, love this place? Have they ever left their zip code? We have eaten Mexican food all over North America. This was just Inedible. The server was very polite, nice and prompt. Not her fault. We paid, tipped and left the food sitting there. We did mention why we we couldn’t eat it, and asked about the greasy cheddar. We were told yellow cheddar- is what is used in authentic Mexican food made in...
