Recently, we tried Taco Dive, Vero Beach. When we arrived, we walked through the place, noting the bed springs lighting fixtures and the wooden shipping skids nailed to one wall. I guess this is what passes for Zero Beach chic. We were loudly welcomed by staff. I ordered two tacos, fish and ground beef. I love fish tacos and have eaten them throughout Florida. To put it mildly, I was looking forward to eating Taco Dive's version of my favorite taco.My significant other ordered the chicken taco. We also had a "coupon" for a complimentary order of chips and salsa. We tried the "medium" salsa and were not disappointed - the chips are "home made" and are really good. We smelled the fish tacos long before we could see them - which was a big turnoff. The tacos were regular sized, 6" tortillas either flour or corn, your choice. Hoping I wasn't making a mistake, I ate the fish taco first. I was a bit disappointed. 24 hours later, I'm still alive, so the foul smell of the fish was probably non-life threatening. The fish was cubed, which isn't always a good sign, but the cook prepared it well and the taco was edible, though not as tasty as I would have preferred. I suggest TD find another fish to use for their tacos...I don't recommend swordfish. The ground beef tack was very good. The chicken taco was very dry, and nearly tasteless, not helped by the sauce. So...two out of the three tacos we ordered were edible, though nothing to write home about. Good enough to get one into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but for a place with "taco" in their name...nothing great!
The waitress was very friendly, and service was smooth and timely. There seemed to be sufficient employees to handle a larger crowd. When the bill arrived, the cost of the smelly fish taco was $7, which was too high for the amount of fish on the taco and the foul smell. The waitress said they received fresh fish daily...but the swordfish may have been left over from another day. We won't be ordering swordfish tacos again...hopefully, if we return we won't sit near anyone who does. UGH! The other tacos were more reasonable, $4.50 each. We noticed several interesting dishes which had been ordered by patrons sitting near us. The chicken nachos looks inviting. The burritos were ample portions.
All in all, we'll probably return to try one or two of the other dishes on the menu. And, if I have regained my courage I'll ask what the fish of the day is. Anything,...
Read moreSmall, ‘corner’ restaurant that serves amazing soft shell tacos and other Tex-Mex varieties. While they did not have hard shell tacos, the flavors on their tacos were absolutely amazing thanks to their fresh ingredients that are piled high!
For starters we ordered the trio appetizer, corn tortillas, accompanied by cheese sauce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It was a great way to start out. The taco dive will give you a free second helping of chips if needed. This was the perfect size for two to share.
Next, I ordered three flour tortillas, noting you can order soft shell corn tortillas as an option. I ordered one with chicken, one with ground beef, and one with steak (and a special sauce). All three tacos were delivered on one tray. Each was loaded with toppings; so much so that you could not properly close the taco without losing some off the sides— making a terrifically delicious mess!
The traditional ground beef taco was just what I was expecting and loaded with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and sour cream was moist and flavorful. My only criticism came with the chicken taco which was still good but contained chicken which was dried out during the cook/prep process. Lastly, the steak taco was a deluxe version of the others. Added vegetables, including sliced radishes, or a pleasant surprise, topped off with sour cream and their special sauce, It was clearly my favorite of the bunch. After finishing all three, I took a fork. It’s still had a nice helping of taco salad sitting on my tray.
Taco Dive also offers tortilla bowls if you’re looking for a larger portion, but I would suggest going with the tacos for a variety sake. No matter how you slice it you will not be disappointed here.
I would highly recommend this place. It is no frills. It is small, and I can imagine would get crowded during the busy hours of lunch or dinner. We came in at 5:15 and had no problem getting seats, though we noticed it was filling up as...
Read moreThe two stars is because the food is very, very good and tasty. The lack on more stars is because the prices are outrageous, when I first visit this joint, I order a Cajun Shrimps taco order, which came with 3 small tacos. Was descent for the great taste of the food. I guess because is a gourmet taco places it could get pricy. I went a couple of more times with friends. Never notice anything different, This last time I order to go, I order the same thing, two orders of Cajun Shrimps tacos, chips and guac. I did notice that the joint was pretty EMPTY to be a Saturday, other times the places was so packed but didn't think too much of it since I was in a hurry, worked the whole morning and was starving. All together was 27 dollars. When I got home because my order was to go, I open my bag and came across only TWO single Cajun Shrimps tacos. I was confused, I thought each other brought three tacos, like before. So I called them and they stated that has always been this way, I do know by a fact that this wasn't true because I been there before. I ask to speak to the manger and she was not sympathetic and she sound upset as to my complaint, she was harsh. At the end of the day even though not necessarily the customer is always right, you need a special fiber to be a manager of a place, and treating the customer in such a harsh way can scare away the customer. Remember a satisfied customer is the best source of advertisement. Research shows that high satisfaction leads to greater customer retention, higher lifetime value, and a stronger brand reputation. So please keep that in mind. I do understand that inflation is killing everyone but is also killing us the customers. Taco is a very affordable type of food. We are from Chicago TOP TACO TOWN in America, besides LA and I get it TD is in Fl but we just have to be more careful how we treat our customers, simple. I hope things change for best, since the...
