If Sundae is your favorite day of the week I have the perfect place to satisfy your ice cream cravings. Downtown Dipper Ice Cream is an ice cream shop located in the Mediterranean Revival Theatre Plaza, a historic building in Vero Beach. The building opened in 1924 as the city's first motion picture studio and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Today the building is the heart of the Vero Beach historic district.
Family owned and operated Downtown Dipper opened in the historic theater in November of 2022. They also own Downtown Dapper across the street. One day after visiting Pocahontas Park they realized there was no place nearby to stop and get ice cream and this was the inspiration for opening Downtown Dipper.
The shop serves Ice Cream Club Ice Cream founded in 1982 by Rich Draper and Tom Jackson who began making ice cream in the back of their 500 foot ice cream shop in Plaza Del Mar on A1A in Manalapan. They began winning awards for their ice cream the next year and in 1984 they opened their second location in North Palm Beach. By 1985 they entered the wholesale ice cream production business and today they have 150 flavors. The Ice Cream Club manufactures in Boynton Beach and they have a frozen storage and distribution center in Riviera Beach that holds 1,000 pallets of ice cream. They are producing 2,000,000 gallons of ice cream per year to supply over 500 ice cream shops, retirement communities, restaurants, and food service and wholesale accounts in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states and the Caribbean Islands.
Here's the scoop! Downtown Dipper serves the ice cream in cups, cones, sundaes, shakes, floats, banana splits, and in ice cream sandwiches made with cookies baked locally. They have all of your favorite toppings including sauces, sprinkles, candy, and cookies. Popular flavors of ice cream include cookie dough, raspberry truffle, and coconut almond fudge along with Salted caramel brownie, red velvet cake, superman, spumoni, cappuccino chip, vanilla, caramel caribou, and black raspberry. I ordered my favorite flavor chocolate chip mint served in a fresh and crispy waffle cone. It was the perfect treat to end the evening. They even have an adorable photo op set up so everyone can take pictures. The story of this sweet local family owned and operated ice cream shop makes my heart melt. ย ย ย Read moreThis small downtown ice cream shop in the heart of the old section of Vero Beach is a true little gem. The server, Reina, was very attentive and did an excellent job preparing my sundae. The flavors were rich and quite sweet, but very nice. I rarely go to the same restaurants within a close period of time but I am tempted to return soon. The only downside is the parking as there is very limited parallel parking and the angle parking is usually full. There is no way to wash your hands as there are no restrooms in the store and the nearest one is down the sidewalk in a hallway and no seating inside so on hot days you go to outside tables. That said, this is a very good ice cream shop and...
