I ordered a custom cake here and everything about the process was infuriating.
First, I call the bakery up at 11:00 AM and ask if they can put photos on cakes there. The lady over the phone said yes, and to come in whenever I feel like it.
Hours go by, I come in the store around 2:00 PM and inquire about ordering a custom cake and everyone there rejects me, telling me they stop receiving overs at noon. Which is fair, but the girl over the phone didn't bother to tell me that. The workers there explained that I was probably talking to a new girl over the phone, but they still rejected me so I turned to leave, but:
A gentleman stopped me and asked what my custom order was, and I told him. He told the others to take my cake order and I was momentarily satisfied.
The girl I was working with takes down notes of my request and I send her an image of what I want on the cake. The number ending in 630. I'm requesting a custom cake of the Binding of Isaac, a video game, and there's cartoon poops in the game and I requested to her that I wanted a little poop swirl, and I showed her a picture of them in-game so she could see what I meant. She wrote down something like, "brown swirl in corners," and I called her out, I said, "Ma'am, I'm concerned that this doesn't describe the poop shape that I want." And she told me not to worry, she told me she'd tell them. She told me they got it.
The next day I come pick up the cake and, well, look at the pictures. There's more bubbling in this than a bubble bath. Which is disappointing enough on its own, but they got the poops wrong. And when the gentleman asked me how it looked, I told him, I wanted it to look more like poops, like from the game. And he referred to the ticket she wrote and was like, well, it says brown swirls. THAT'S WHAT I TOLD HER YESTERDAY. I told her I was concerned that her description of the poop wasn't adequate but she assured me everything was okay. So now I'm standing like an idiot because the cake is done to paper's specifications but it's not what I wanted. All cause I trusted an employee who said they'd pass the message via word of mouth. They didn't offer a refund or a fix or anything. The poops weren't even in the right place either.
I can't respect a place like this anymore. When an undertrained employee doesn't tell me when I need to place an order by, suddenly it's my fault for coming in late. And when I made a very specific request for poops and demonstrated what it was supposed to look like, another employee wrote it down poorly and didn't address my concerns and thus it came out wrong. And on top of everything, it came out extremely bubbly.
I'm never spending my money here again and I wish they would give me a refund. First they made me feel like it's my fault for what an employee didn't tell me over the phone, then butchered my only request on the cake when I showed them image references. And the image is so bubbly, it's hard to even see it in the light. I'm just so.. upset and...
Read moreThey bought the Halepaska's Bakery. I would've given 5 stars, but the cake just doesn't taste the same (& they don't make baklava). It's missing something that made the Halepaska's cakes sweeter. The cake was moist and tasted good, but that's the only reason I can't give 5 stars. The service is good and they went above and beyond on the cupcakes. They replaced the 6 blue ones when the frosting slid and melted into each other. Kudos for their quick replacement. As for the design of the cake, they were able to do it from a picture I supplied, so they do have go artists working for them. They were able to use minimal fondant, since it's not something the kiddos care to eat. My grandson LOVED his baby shark cake of daddy shark! (In case you are wondering, the cupcake tower & picks were ordered on Amazon.) I have tried some of their other products, and what I tried had been like before. The ones I've tried have been sprinkle cookies and fudge brownies....
