Alfio's La Trattoria — Restaurant in Village of Friendship Heights

REAL ITALIAN AT IT'S BEST!!

I had a craving for authentic Italian cuisine, so I decided to take a step back into time to a restaurant that I used to visit in the 90's and it was as if time had been standing still. The love that Alfio's La Trattoria puts into each and every meal is like no other and each bite leaves you wanting more. I could have gone to a chain restaurant, but I wanted the best and that is exactly what I got. After all, they have been providing the best of the best in Italian cuisine for well over 60 years and that is just something that no chain restaurant can compete with.

My chicken Alfredo was just as I remembered... pleasing to the palate and the perfect harmony of noodles, sauce and chicken. I accompanied it with a few pieces of bruschetta and out of nowhere, I found myself kissing the tips of my fingers.

I wanted to share the experience, so I also picked up chicken parmesan and minestrone soup and was told that the chicken parmesan was the best that they had ever tasted. There was even mention of something about the preparation of the spaghetti noodles and how there was some type of oil on them that gave it an extra oomph.

The portions are large and the union of flavors cannot to duplicated.

I ordered the mussels and the calamari. Both dishes did not taste good. Calamari tasted like it had been fried in chicken grease, and the mussels tasted extremely fishy. When I brought this to the attention of my waiter and the owner of the restaurant, they commenced to attempt to discredit my complaint. He brought out a plate of raw seafood to show me what they used to make the dishes and also questioned the last time I actually had these seafood dishes. The owner became extremely rude towards me and did not treat me as a valued customer. In fact he asked to me leave the establishment. But of course not before giving me my bill in which I was about to spend almost $80 in the establishment. I believe that if I had been a white woman or man making this same complaint, the outcome would have been different. Also, when I told him I would make a review of my experience, he said to me, "have fun". I guess my business is not valued at this restaurant. This is my second time at this restaurant and I didn't enjoy my food then either...But I didn't complain. This time I chose to complain and was met with extreme hostility. This one was my first time there, and my experience wasn't pleasant at all. We went with a few friends for a birthday celebration. The place itself was very nice, I felt comfortable in the beginning, music was good until you needed the service. The waitress came 20 minutes after we arrived, I ordered 1 antipasti and 2 main dishes for me and my husband. Forget about drinks,that was another story. After an hour, the waitress returned with one dish, and it was for one of the guests who ordered 15 minutes before us, and he said that the plate was cold. He was hungry and tired, so he ate it. After probably 20 minutes more, she came back with one of our dishes and not a word for the rest. For obvious reasons, we canceled the rest of the order, and instead of apologizing or looking more understanding, she turned back with attitude. To pay the bill, I had to go and find the lady, speak with the manager, and 30 minutes later, I paid my bill. The whole thing was outrageous. I had never experienced something like this, and my feelings were that they both couldn't care less.
