This particular day, the food was lacking to say the least. The fish tasted refired and like it had been allowed to sit in fryer, submerged in oil. The coleslaw was off, it had an off putting spoiled smell and flavor. The shrimp were not fresh or freshly cooked, they smelled like ammonia. The kids Shrimp had not been deveined, which ended the meal for my youngest. The fries were cold , the mac and cheese, watery and we were surprised at how bad everything was. Time of evening may account for the wait,(this was around 8:30 on a Saturday night) but not the poor quality of the meal which totalled around 40 dollars for the four of us. The staff however was incredibly kind and accomodating and the restaurant was clean. I do not like writing this, but our experience was what it was. I've eaten there in the past and it wasn't this far gone as far as quality of food served was concerned. I hope they regain the pride they seemed to have in the past about what is acceptable to serve or find managers that will be sure that their supplies are rotated and served as fresh or close to fresh as possible.This pains me to share, but I am a fan of LJS and want the best for the consumer and the franchise. This was the LJS near the Rosies, across from BK in Vinton. I hope things get better, much much better. Ordered what used to be called "Fish and More" which is now a menu number, and includes 2 fried fish, 2 hush puppies, and your choice of 2 of four sides. I chose the Cole Slaw, which was very crisp, nicely seasoned, and tasty. The Waffle Fries were very hot and crispy, as were the hush puppies. The fish was greasy in the breading, but the portions were large. The meal was served with generous packs of ketsup or other sauces as desired, and a generous serving of crispy fried bits as a bed for the fish. The meal was more than enough for me, and I took over half home for another meal, as did my dining partner, who ordered the same. The kind gentleman who took orders and expedited the food was friendly, fast, and accurate. The atmosphere was not outstanding, just regular tables and chairs, which were clean. I can only get the atmosphere four stars however it is simply not their fault. But it is somewhat drab still sporting the pirate theme, but at the same time, somewhat comforting to somebody at my age. Again covid killed dine-in restaurants and places like Long John Silver's and other fast food places have paid the toll but made up for it in online orders to go. All that being said the last time I went in everybody was joking with each other and laughing and just getting along beautifully and super friendly. At no point did this impact their service.
