Update: I ordered from Dixie Bones on DoorDash again to see if everything was the same, and it was even better! A few reviews said the food had gone downhill after the pandemic. It was the most delicious meal I have had in a while! I use DoorDash several times a week because I live alone and work from home, and they are the fastest in preparation, and package everything better than any other restaurant in the area. I always get a Dixie Dog and a pint of mac and cheese and potato salad. I eat off of everything for several days. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the portions are huge. I ordered a drink today for $2.50 (I never get drinks) and received an enormous cup filled to the brim. I also tried the bread pudding for the first time today. It was amazing! It comes with a delightful caramel sauce. I don't like sweets normally, but have had a taste for something sweet. It definitely did not disappoint, and again the portions are huge. I paid over $100 for a meal at The Melting Pot yesterday that was just ok, and you can't really take anything home. My total today was around $28 for a huge serving of potato salad, macaroni and cheese, large drink, large portion of bread pudding, and a sausage. I can eat the sides with a sandwich when I work from home all week. On top of that, the taste and quality of the meal were amazing. The potato salad is a homemade southern mayonnaise based salad that has eggs. I despise grocery store potato salad, and Amish potato salad. If that is what you like, their potato salad might not be for you. The macaroni and cheese is southern baked macaroni and cheese. I like to add pepper to mine. The Dixie Dog is a sausage on a hot dog bun that is covered in an entire side of coleslaw, pickles, and cheese. It is a lot of food, and the combination of flavors is perfect. I add barbecue sauce and the white sauce to everything as well. They always take time to package everything carefully, and include sauces and utensils. This is easily one of the best restaurants in Woodbridge. It is nice to actually enjoy a meal, because most of the restaurants in this area are...
Read moreThis place is a local favorite and is loved by the community and the staff. The staff have pictures of themselfs shot by the owner which shows a great deal of support from the owner. Our waiter said that he had worked there for about 5 years which to me means he is dedicated. So needless to say our waiter knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to introduce us to the menu and help us select some of the local favorites. He also made me an "Arnold Palmer" even thou it wasn't on the menu and it was excellent. Now comes the bad news. Even tho the wait staff was excellent and the decor made you feel like you were in an old American antique shop (Which was fun to look around) the food was just ok. I ordered the pulled pork and it was dry, the BBQ sauces were just ok and they had three to select from. The Chicken was also dry but now as much as the pork. My son had the grilled cheese and he actually ate it, and I say that because he's a picky eater. I expected better from this establishment because it looked and smelt like BBQ, there was even a huge smoker in the parking lot at the front door so I was hopeful from the beginning. But that wasn't the worse part, the Mac and cheese was the worse I have ever had. It wasn't cheesy or creamy. The noodles were soft but the cream was gridy and the cheese wasn't melty but stiff like kraft cheese gets when it cools. I told waiter about the cheese separation which causes the gridy texture but he said that's how they made there. So pushed it to the side and continued my meal. In the end I had a good experience and was really impressed by the respect and love by the staff for the restaurant. But since I have to judge the food in this review I'll have to leave it with a 3 star on just the food alone and a 5 star...
Read moreYesterday, I was in a hurry and running late to attend a funeral in New Jersey. I decided to call ahead at one of my favorite places to get fried catfish, Dixie Bones. I've been coming here for almost 10 years. Quickly ran in, paid for my food, and left. When I stop in Alexandria to pick up friends and open my food, I find this. To my dismay, the catfish was both burned and I'm sure the grease was old that it was fried in. The beans and rice and green beans all taste burnt. I called back and explained to a manager on staff. She asked me to refrigerate the food and bring it back when I returned to VA. I only eat certain types of food and had absolutely no time to stop anywhere else. So I ate the catfish - burnt and all. When I returned today, I brought them green beans and beans and rice. The manager on staff was nice about it, explained their policy to me, and said "she'd take care of it". They begin making another one and an older man tells them they can't make another one. I stepped in and said they didn't have to. I'd just like my money for what I didn't eat. He said that he wouldn't be giving me any money back but he could replace the sides. I explained that I ate here too often and that the food was burnt. He says 'no it wasn't'. Trust me, if the sides were in the least bit edible, I would've eaten them. The lack of customer service by whom I'm assuming is either an owner or GM was absolutely horrible. I thanked the manager for what she tried to do and left. It is so sad that this business doesn't truly don't value their customers and their...
