Pretty terrible. Doesn't hold a candle to 5 dollar frozen sushi.
I sat in a wobbly chair that felt like it was going to fall apart. Swapped out for one that was only slightly better.
There was a lunch special - 3 rolls, soup and salad for $18.00. It sounds like a great bargain, but I think they have modified "lunch versions" of rolls - unless maybe it's just really gone down hill since the last time I went.
The salad is straight iceberg lettuce - old and wilted at that. And stuffed so high in the bowl you can't mix to coat the dressing without salad spilling out.
Miso soup was okay. Wife received a different soup for no apparent reason - which appeared to be tap water with a slice of mushroom on top.
1st roll - Tempura Crab Roll. There was no crab. Just rice, imitation crab, and seaweed. And no tempura or fried aspect. A giant hunk of rice and a tiny sliver of nasty fake crab. No other ingredients, or flavor to speak of. The fact that it used fake crab was not on menu.
2nd roll - Dynamite Roll. Described as mixed fish with a spicy sauce. When I see "mixed fish" with sushi, I imagine a mix of fishes. Maybe the fish changes over time. It was "mixed" in the sense it was mixed with mayo. This was a tuna salad roll. I do generally like tuna salad, but it wasn't even good tuna salad. Pretty gross.
3rd roll - Spicy Tuna. Tuna was sort of okay, but again the proportions of rice to fish were comical, and the rice was not even good.
Wife got spaghetti noodles with soy sauce and steak....
Read moreService was par for the course with covid era under-staffing, but it looked like they could have more effectively used what staff they did have. Our server seemed to have too much to do. It took us a while to get her attention that we were ready for the check. The food is the real reason we will never be back. The hibachi food ordered at the table was tough and relatively tasteless. The shrimp appetizer was cooked but came colder than room temperature. It was quite possible that table ordered hibachi was cooked well in advance and reheated. The sushi combo was a huge disappointment. As I ate the octopus piece, all I could think of was that the sushi chef should be made to eat his own food because it was so tough and chewy. Most of the other pieces were poorly cut and sometimes off tasting. The sushi rice itself reminded me of grocery store sushi though admittedly at least at the right temperature. Most pieces of the sushi I ate out of duty, without pleasure, and I was happy to swallow just to get it over with. I took the time to write this review as a service to travelers so they may avoid the mistake we made. I travel a lot and frequently eat sushi both in this country and internationally. The last time I had sushi this disappointing was about 10 years ago. Finally, the cost was far from cheap, and I left thinking that my money would have been better spent at the nearby Cracker Barrel, and I dont even like...
Read moreRecently, there has been some slanderous and very misinformed comments about Mikados flying around on social media. I also am leaning on the belief that the slander started is coming from a very upset, childish former employee. Although, Truthfully, I am a VERY frequent patron of Mikados and have never even seen that supposed employee before.. That being said, I am here to push back against those comments and resolidify my stance with one of my most favorite places to enjoy quality food and hospitality. I moved to Virginia in 2008 and had the pleasure of meeting Henra at a different location in Winchester before Mikados ever opened. To my surprise, Mikados opens, and there was Henra. The service we get everytime is Top Notch. The sushi is delicious, and out of the 14 years I have been a loyal customer - only twice have I ever had an issue and the issue was always quickly resolved!! My family and friends enjoy our birthdays, special events or even those nights where we just don't feel like cooking dinner at home.
If anyone has any concerns, they can clearly access the Lord Fairfax Health district page and even see for themselves the most recent inspection that took place at Mikados. Issues found were minor and easily corrected, and no sign of pests was found despite the allegations that was recently thrown around by a "former employee ". The follow up inspection determined Mikados passed with...
