Good food; incompetent service. Just finished lunch at this Nando's location with a co-worker. I ordered the 1/4 Chicken (Leg) w/ 2-sides - $10.89 per the menu (see attached picture). I was charged $12.84. Before the order was complete, I questioned the server on the price (which appeared on the customer-facing POS display) - she informed me the higher price was the grand total - all tax included. But, I was ultimately charged a total of $14.12; sub-total $12.84 + $1.28 tax. Sub-total should have been $10.89 - per the list price of the single menu item I had ordered. I presented the printed receipt to the cashier, who insisted the $12.84 price was the menu price with tax included - but she didn't seem to understand the bottom portion of the receipt - which clearly identifies the sub-total + tax amounts and the grand total. She proceeded to summon the manager over - who came by after a minute or two. The manager told me the same thing. With both receipt and menu in hand, I pointed out that the menu price was $10.89, but was charged $12.84, and subsequently charged tax off of the incorrect, higher amount. Saying the same thing the cashier did, he told me the $12.84 was the total w/ tax - ignoring the bottom portion of the receipt that had the tax amounts and grand total itemized. He asked me if I wanted a refund, and I said that "I would like to eat there, but request the $2 refund that I was improperly charged". He proceeded to open the register to hand me a bit of change (coins) - I think it was about 20 cents. And I said "no - I want the $2 difference that I was over-charged". The manager, still not understanding my concern and the blatant discrepancy, begrudgingly handed me $2 cash. Both the cashier and the manager were quite unpleasant during the entire confrontation. In both cases, I politely identified the discrepancy - with menu and receipt side-by-side. Unfortunately, both these employees just didn't understand the mistake - or were knowingly trying to rip me off. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I'll write it off to ignorance to simple arithmetic. Neither of the employees seemed interested in correcting the customer's (my) concerns. But they did - much to my (and likely their) frustration. I say "their frustration" too, because they just didn't understand the difference between a sub-total, itemized tax amounts, and a grand total. Due to my little patience for incompetence and unfriendly service staff, I'm afraid I won't be eating here again, despite their food being pretty good. The food was good in this visit as well, and the meal was prepared according...
Read moreI love nandos peri peri however this experience at the Rosslyn metro location did not even compare to my experience at every other location. 1: I had a coupon for a free 1/4 chicken, this coupon did not have an expiration date on it, yet when I presented it, the cashier wasn't ent sure if they accepted them any more. Her boss seemed annoyed but still gave us the free chicken on the coupon. 2: another patron came in stating that he ordered online and was here for pick up. the cashier interrupted my order to help this man while there were several other employees standing around and didnt seem to be doing any tasks other than wiping down counters. When the cashier explained to the patron that their online ordering wasn't working and his food wasnt ready, she didnt apologize and said he would have to wait for her to enter his order and then wait for the food. he complained to the manager who seemed to take no responsibility and dismissed the Patron saying it wasnt his fault and that the computer wasnt working. He did the same thing with a second customer who also ordered online. for only ordering 2 pieces of chicken the wait time seemed a bit extensive while other customers who came in after us received their food first. while waiting for our food, the 1st patron who ordered online got his food and left, only for the employee packing the bags realize she forgot to put one of his meals in the bag. the employees seemed to not care at all. 4: I ordered 2 pieces of chicken. I asked for one to be medium spicy and the other to be no sauce at all. when I got home, both pieces were spicy with sauce on them. more over, I ordered the seasoned veggies and found a produce sticker still left on the tomato.
all in all I will never be going back to this location, regardless of the convenience and proximity...
Read moreI love nando's and wish they are available in NorCal where I'm from. I knew about Nando's when I first tried it in Australia. I looked it up and I believe the chain started in South Africa.
I love the way chicken is grilled and how they kept the dark meat, fat, and skin which is exactly how foodies want their chickens. I also love the sauce and even for the extra hot it's really not that spicy but very flavorful. However I do recommend first timers to try medium or hot not extra hot.
The chicken is extremely tender just like how El Pollo Loco grills the chicken except it's even more grilled so some parts are charred which is just perfect. Africans know their chickens and I concur wholeheartedly.
In Australia the restaurant is mostly fast food style but here it's slightly a cross between fast food and sit down. The decors are simple with some African influence but very welcoming. Personally I'd prefer this is more fast food like because sit-down always seems to give too serious a vibe for a quick meal but it's just a personal preference so doesn't matter.
My favorite is the 2 legs which include the thighs and also the wings. If they open up in NorCal I'll eat it every week as this is literally the second meal in two different nando's I've had within 3 days.
Oh this is right next to McDonald's so it's perfect for those with kids to order McDonald's for kids and order Nando's...
