Underwhelming. We dined in with friends with a 5:30 pm reservation on a Saturday. This was our first time at Perry’s RVA, but not our first dining experience at a Perry’s. The restaurant is pretty but this Perry’s is all about the $$$$ (packing people in) and NOT the dining experience. We were packed in like sardines to the point that the server could only serve from one angle and was forced to reach across the table. The server is trying to do it all while there are a plethora of workers standing around. Our first cocktail took approximately 25 minutes to receive after ordering. We were tempted to order 2 drinks at a time. It was difficult to get the waiter’s attention because he had so many tables. The room is extremely loud with so many tables packed in together. I was unable to participate in the conversation without feeling like I was yelling.
The appetizers were good. We had beef carpaccio and escargo (meh - way too salty and nothing like what we were expecting with lemon, butter & garlic). The escargot was like garlicky paste drenched in salt and a little butter. Our friends had grilled shrimp and enjoyed it. We shared a wedge salad after the apps and that was good.
On to the entrees. I ordered the $58 Koji 6 oz filet mignon medium. The waiter said that it came with a side of scallops or lobster tail. I’m allergic to seafood so I ordered the lobster tail for my husband. (At the end of the nite, I was charged for that lobster that I could not eat.) He should have said that it would “pair well) and NOT that it came with it. The steak is presented on a sizzling cast iron platter. I cut the first bite and told the waiter it was overcooked. He then immediately insisted I cut into it in the center of the steak (not how I like to eat a small steak) after which, within 30 seconds, it cooked to a gray well-done. I notified the server, who got a manager, who offered me a new steak. I asked to keep the plate so I could enjoy some sides. My husband ordered the grilled veggies and I ordered the scalloped potatoes. The minute any food hit that sizzling platter, everything became overcooked. Finally, after the table was done dining, my mini blob of koji style filet came out with a fresh side of bernaise and a half of a roasted head of garlic. We mentioned to the waiter that the first order did not have the garlic….he said they must have forgotten it. This time they brought a platter and transferred my meat immediately so it didn’t continue to cook. I am guessing the steak was to come with one of their plates but with 4 of us, there wasn’t room at the table so it wasn’t handled that way to begin with. I found the meat to taste as if it was encrusted in salt. This girl from Texas was not impressed. My husbands dinner was the black cod and he enjoyed it.
Our friends had the chicken Oscar and a pasta dish that was a surf & turf with pasta. It was ordered “medium” and came out so rare that our friend could not eat it. They also ordered the corn soufflé that was more like a thickened cream corn with little jalapeños in it.
We ordered dessert following dinner. I had the bananas foster. It was okay and was a scramble in the right space for the server. I would not recommend this dish. There was a strange overwhelming flavor to it that was not good - we all agreed. Our friends enjoyed the crème brûlée which was very good. There was also an ice cream ball coated in white chocolate that had a similar rum sauce on it as the banana foster that was ok.
We ordered wine with dinner that took a long time to get.
Overall, if I went back, I’d go to the bar and order the apps. The service was very lacking, the timing of the service was always off, and every time you needed the server, we got a “just a minute, I need to greet these new guests” or something else. The experience was very cramped and very loud and we were finally leaving at 8:55 pm from our 5:30 pm reservation. Our portion of the dinner tab for the two of us came in right at $400...
Read moreTHIS is the review you’re looking for! Dined in at Perry’s tonight… and when I TELL YOU this is a breath of FRESH AIR in the Richmond Area. This is FRESH. Don’t no body do it like Perry’s around here and it shows 💯. From the jump walking through the front door, it felt instantly welcoming. The front staff held open the door and greeted us and ask for our reservations which we had ✅, and we were instantly sat down and greeted by Alexis who was our waitress, FANTASTIC by the way. She was there to accommodate us in any way we needed and gave us an entire menu rundown with awesome recommendations!
We definitely chose a few she recommended such as the Cherry Pepper Calamari 10/10, I feel like it could use a remoulade type sauce but hey it was still BUSSIN. 🤩🤩 Then we got the crab cakes which were 12/10!!! Definitely real crab🦀, no fillers and moist as could be. Melt in your mouth and worth every penny. Then we did the 8oz Filet Mignon🥩🥓 wrapped in bacon, with the lump king crab and asparagus….. and babyyyyy I am here to tell you 12/10 it’s THAT GOOD! Cooked to perfection. Like these people do notttt play ❌🤣.
We also got the New York strip flight which was actually 3 separate types of steak including A-5 Waygu. Amazing trio of steaks. Portion isn’t as generous as other menu options. But given that it’s $99 and including Japanese waygu, what do you expect? 🤔 9/10. We did opt in for 2 additional sides that were shareable and we also had enough left over that we took some home! We chose the Corn Brûlée 🌽which was definitely on point and delicious 10/10, and the Mac and cheese, which had smoked Gouda and it also has them melted bread crumbs on it! 10/10. 😍😍 For desert we chose Crème Brûlée and Bananas Foster🍌 both were 10/10. The Bananas Foster had an amazing presentation and was made table-side with flames🔥!
Everything was simply amazing you guys! In this economy we easily pay $100-200+ on a subpar meal these days at restaurants. Half the time it’s not what you ordered or BLAND. Point blank 💯. But Perry’s didn’t play no games. 🙅🏼♂️. Seasoned to perfection. They also constantly checked on us, not just our waitress but the general manager which was (very polite and he had great table side manners). Other waitstaff checked in as well and consistently refilled drinks. 🥤 Soda’s are normally $3.50-4.25 💰 at most places around here and they may refill it once and that’s if they care about their jobs🤷🏼♂️.. But Perry’s. Nope that doesn’t apply here. It’s consistent and with a smile. No attitude, just simple service.
I am not being paid to write this by no means. I just am too pleased with this restaurant not to write a review…. Once again no where does it like this… and no shade to Ruth’s Chris but don’t compete where you don’t compare🥴.🤭 Lol. Perry’s leveled up for sure📈. I got large portions, it taste superior , great atmosphere and was treated better for wayy less price🤯. “Like the math is mathing”…. 😂 Everything I listed was $285. Our sides were $15 a piece. Considering them being shareable and this being fine dining, that’s a perfect price point in 2024… I couldn’t cook this meal myself for that with the grocery store prices 👏🏼. So I will most definitely be back!
Congratulations to Perry’s Short Pump for being so successful from the start and shout out to the amazing staff for how great you all are doing!!! We can definitely see the effort that’s being put in and it’s genuinely appreciated by most of us 🤗🤗....

Jesus was amazing and so was the wonderful staff and server I had. The food was seasoned perfectly, great portion sizes, quick! I had 2 thyme lemon drops that inspired me to go home and make my own as well lol. I really enjoyed my experience and honestly, I plan to continue to visit. If you have the chance to, get the berry cheesecake! It's to die for
UPDATE 5.8.24: While I have not been able to visit Perry's again yet, I am updating my rating due to how absolutely wonderful the general manager, Jesus, is. After I posted my review, Jesus did everything in his power to understand why the review was posted and took amazing steps to help encourage a much better experience during my next visit. He was attentive and persistent, I do fully believe that this establishment will only get better under his management. Thank You Mr. Jesus!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I recently went to Perry's to celebrate a friend's birthday & I wish I could say I had a better experience. Before I detail that part of my experience I would like to say that this establishment is beautiful, the drink I had was great, the white chocolate cheesecake was delicious & there was plenty of parking. No issues there at all! We had a party of 6 and a reservation for 8:30. 3 of the 6 arrived at 8:30 but were told we couldn't be seated until the full party arrived. They ended up seating the 3 of us around 9 as the rest of the party was late (this was much appreciated!). The rest of the party showed up by 9:05 & we were given water and menus. We were aware the establishment closed at 10 so everyone hurried & decided on drinks & food but our waiter did not come to take our drink or food orders until 9:30. We had to ask another waiter if ours was okay because other tables around us were being seated and had their orders taken by other waiters. When the waiter came back he said he "can't place all his focus on our table because he has other tables to take care of" which was surprising & a bit confusing because we had not seen him since getting water poured when sat...more than 20 minutes prior. We placed our orders & asked that the food be packaged up to-go because it was getting closer to close time. Before our drinks came out at 10:15, another table of 4-5 was sat, orders placed, & had their drinks delivered. Our waiter even questioned the bar of where our drinks were once he saw another table with theirs. Our food came out a minute or 2 after the drinks, on plates and we had to ask twice more for to go boxes. I ordered the roasted black cod with chorizo crisp, the white chocolate cheesecake, & a Bourbon bloom drink. The cod dish portion was smaller than expected and not seasoned. The drink & dessert were great though. We got to go boxes around 10:30, although most were finished with their food due to waiting for the waiter to bring the boxes out. We asked for checks & were told we "were asking for a lot". Overall, the experience was a confusing one. A mixture of good and bad but I'm not sure the good outweighs the negative for me here. I've heard great things about other Perry's locations and was so excited to try this one but it just did not meet...
