Sarku Japan Teriyaki & Sushi Express — Restaurant in Virginia

SLOPPY service. ZERO attention to detail!! I ordered online the Chicken Teriyaki with fried rice. In the extras column, I selected: veggies, & sauce, electing to pay $1.10 more for the veggies and $0.60 more for the sauce. They brought my order with the chicken served up on a load of cabbage with one stalk of broccoli -- NO rice. I called the restaurant and asked them to replace it. They spent 10 minutes arguing with me about how they didn't read the order the way I placed it. Fine. You made a mistake, but you still need to replace the order. They didn't want to do that so I will be disputing the charge with my card company. They have lost my business forever. They had the opportunity to fix this, and make it right. INSTEAD, they took the bad impression cemented...

My cousins and I come here often. The food is pretty solid, but there is always tension between a certain cashier (maybe manager based on the way he talks to the other employees) and the cooks. We normally don’t mind the tension as long as we get our food, but this time the cashier opened and closed a bunch of orders including ours after handling cash. He also went to the sushi station. I suspect he did so because he doesn’t trust that coworkers filled the order right.

Anyway, we got mild food poisoning probably due to cross contamination.

If you are going to handle the food, please put on gloves. Hand sanitizer is not enough. Please resolve the tension in the work environment so that future cross contamination from the kitchen to the cash register doesn’t...

Not what I expected. The place was smoky and smelled like burnt food, which means the ventilation isn’t cleaned regularly. The cook was pulling triple duty, putting rice and veggies into the containers as well as coming around the counter to put the food he just cooked into bags and handing them off to customers, all while the cashier just stood there looking dumb. I asked for shrimp teriyaki (no sauce), white rice & vegetables. I got a mountain of rice with shrimp looking crazy on top. And then when I told the cashier that he didn’t give me my veggies she went back to the food prep area and touched the veggies with her dirty handling money hands. So now I have to find somewhere else to eat because I’m not eating this garbage. Waste of $10....
