I’ll begin this review by saying I love Indian food. My family of foodies and I have had the pleasure of trying around 10 Indian restaurants in VA, and several in other states. When my father and I chose to try this restaurant for the first time today, we were extremely impressed. It was the best Indian lunch buffet we’ve ever had, and several of the dishes were the best we’ve encountered in all of our experiences with Indian Cuisine. At first glance, the buffet looked small, but we immediately noticed several addenda to the average Indian restaurant’s lunch buffet, including vegetable curry, lamb curry, gulab jamun, chicken jalfrezi, and vermicelli pudding (sevaya kheer), among others. On other dishes, such as the chicken masala, we noticed nuances, such as the addition of nuts, to set this food apart (and above) that of other restaurants.
We made an effort to try portions of each option before fully indulging. To our delight, each dish was flavorful and delicious. The samosas were crunchy and perfectly seasoned, the vegetable curry, although spicy, was very enjoyable, and the lamb curry and chicken jalfrezi were my favorites of the proteins offered, and contenders for the best of their kind that I have eaten. During our meal, our waiter brought fresh naan to the table. My expectations were low; although I like naan, I usually opt for the flavored choices. I tore into this naan, absorbed some of the sauces on my plate, and tried it. It was hot, light, fluffy, buttery, and delectable; the best naan I have had to date. Furthermore, the gulab jamun also earned a first place in our palates. It was precisely the right temperature and consistency, and dusted in coconut shavings. When dipped in the condensed milk of the vermicelli pudding, it was absolutely exquisite.
Needless to say, we engorged ourselves. We look forward to going back, and we highly recommend...

I see some other reviews and from experience I see how much the staff cares to learn about customer/guest needs overtime.
Needless to say, the food was fantastic. The service is what really got me. I visited Fredericksburg to see some close friends and we came out here for dinner. The staff (Kumar especially) was just incredibly polite and accommodating. The hospitality was so good it made no sense! Some notes:
-They checked on us at the right times and made sure we were always good
-Kumar made incredible efforts and even attached an extra table to ours ensuring we had space for all the orders
-They are so proud of offering different food combinations and accommodations - they mix different curry flavors with different proteins (Rogan Josh Paneer for example) which I have never experienced before in an Indian restaurant. That is this restaurant’s X factor in my opinion and I have traveled the world.
-The owner/manager was incredibly proud of their menu offerings and was very patient with us as we made those not-so-tough decisions
-They made us a special Lassi that I’ve never had. All I did was ask. It was like an Indian Pina Colada and tasted increíble.
-They didn’t even bother to tell us that they were closing at 9PM and we were enjoying ourselves way past that. Rather they were inviting and accepting of that.
I don’t mind dropping money for a restaurant but you have to get what you pay for. The business is tough to maintain but your customers should be taken care and they’ll take care of you.
Thank you to the staff and we have found our new favorite in Fredericksburg. A lot of restaurants and businesses need to take notes and maybe they’ll do better....
Read moreWe arrived at Taste of Spice for dinner on Sunday evening around 5:25pm. It is an unassuming casual dining restaurant. We were the only couple dining there but they did seem busy fulfilling pick up and delivery orders though. We ordered “lamb rogan josh,” order of “raita” (yogurt), one garlic naan (bread), one roti (unleavened bread), and mango lassi (drink). The lamb rogan josh came with a generous helping of fluffy basmati rice with few peas on top. The serving portions are decent for the price. I didn’t like the raita because it had a weird tangy taste to it. I wish I had gone with plain yogurt instead. The lamb rogan josh was just as mild as I had requested it but it was nothing to rave about. FYI: it’s a misconception that Indian food needs to be spicy to taste good. The roti was quite a disappointment for me because I’m Indian so I expect it to be made light, soft and airy like the rotis I grew up eating in India. This version of roti was very thin, cracked and dry. The garlic naan was soft and delicious. The mango lassi had the right amount of sweetness and you could taste the mango flavor. Unfortunately I fell sick at the restaurant due to my surgery complications. I had to visit their bathroom and it is clean and well maintained. Overall first impression of the restaurant is...
