Admiral Pub — Restaurant in Warren

Our waitress was horrid! We had never been to the Admiral Pub and were looking forward to a great meal after reading all the wonderful reviews. Our waitress was not friendly or attentive at all. But I can get over that if everything else is right and the waitress is at least competent. I asked for iced tea and she looked at me and said "oh I don't know if we have tea" I thought to myself you don't know?? Ok, fine I will have water. We ordered our food, my husband ordered the scrod and I ordered a salad. My salad was ok but I thought my husband's scrod was very good and it came with some sauteed cabbage that was out of this world! So I asked the waitress if I could have a side of cabbage and she said to me "oh I don't know" Again I thought you don't know?? The hostess was standing next to me so I looked at her and I said is she "new" and she said "no". At some point, I get the cabbage and it is not at all like the cabbage my husband had and I asked why and she said oh they sauteed it like they do the vegetables. I did not know how you wanted it cooked. I thought have you ever thought to ask your customer?? Usually, a waitress asks how you want something cooked but then I had just had my husbands and I told her how wonderful it was--so you would have thought she could figure it out???? No, not this lady, she did not ask so I assume she did not care. I said I am sorry but this has vinegar and I did not want that so I would rather not eat it. She left it on the table and then brought us our check and said I did not take the cabbage off the bill since we made it and it is only 2.50!! I was dumbstruck. Oh ok, I said. My husband said we are never coming back here ever again. Now I am pissed not because of the cost but because she failed to ask me how I wanted it cooked ( I have never been here before and she should know her menu or when in doubt ask?) this is her incompetence and I am paying? Nor did she say anything remotely like I am sorry I should have asked, can I have them remake this for you? What she did say was "next time you should order the Panko Scrod"!!! THERE WILL NOT BE...

This was my second time dining at the Admirals Pub in Warren, RI. While the first visit was okay (food substandard, but service excellent), this visit was a waste of time and money. We were greeted within a couple of minutes and told to choose our seating, so we picked one of the booths near the window. It took a few minutes to get menus, but the server was polite and got our drinks right away. She wasn’t knowledgeable about one of the menu items I inquired about so I chose the one she was familiar with - and ordered the item (tuna) rare with what I thought were two sides. My son settled on a burger. Then 35 minutes later, our meals arrived (which was quite a long wait during a time with only one other table in the restaurant and two women at the bar). When the meals arrived, both were a mess. My son’s burger was greasy and sloppily put together - and my tuna was basically thrown on a plate with only one side. When I asked about the second side, the server said it only came with one. So I let that slide, writing it off as a misunderstanding - and then she disappeared for 20 minutes. When she came back, I told her that the tuna was over-cooked and I only chose to eat half of it. She apologized and took the plate away (I thought she was off doing something about it) - and ten minutes later came with the check and told me to have a good night. She simply didn’t care! It’s been a while since I’ve tipped less than 20%, but tonight was one of those nights. I gave her 15% since the food wasn’t her fault - and would have given her more had she simply showed some concern and maybe sent a manager over. What a waste of 1.5 hours and almost $40. I think I’ll skip this place next time I’m in town - which is unfortunate, given that I visit the area at least...

2024 Review - 4 stars We appreciated the bartender. She was working hard and had to serve tables too since the waitress was so lame. This made service slow and we saw other patrons get up and leave since the bad waitress hadn't even approached their table. Contrary to others posts, this is NOT a place for French onion soup. Everything about it was wrong, the broth was some stock other than beef (chicken?), the onions were crunchy, they put baguette bread or a dinner role in it and the cheese 🧀 was wrong. Otherwise food was decent. The bartender tossed some of the food we intended to take home since she was not listening. Would give 3 stars but I like the atmosphere here and feel like the staff/management/owners are nice hardworking people.
