Tucked away under a nondescript building you'll find a gem of a modern Jewish deli. My local friends loved going to the Buffalo & Bergen stand in Union Market so they brought me to the new storefront to try it out.
You are greeted by a white-tiled, low-ceilinged restaurant with some bar seating and some tables but not much! This place is going to get busy quickly if it hasn't already.
We showed up at 11 AM on a Saturday and we were lucky there were 3 seats at the bar to sit at.
I could have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with all the delicious looking options. I went with the well-dressed Reuben on an everything bagel. Just look at the picture attached to my review. This is what deli dreams are made of. The meat was tender and flavorful and the bagel was one of the best I've ever had. To start, my friends and I shared the latkes which come with a bourbon granny smith apple sauce and some kind of ricotta spread. Mom, if you're reading this, forgive me. These latkes were better than yours!
Everything about Buffalo and Bergen from the vibe to the service to the food was great. I will definitely be...
Read moreInspired by the soda shops of New York, Buffalo & Bergen is a small retro style restaurant near Union Station on Capitol Hill. Bagels with names like “the original sinner,” sandwiches with names like “cheezus has risen“, and cocktails called “where 2 or more are gathered” are on the menu. Here's what I love:
Space: There's something about a small space. It makes you feel its yours, a true neighborhood spot. Buffalo & Bergen looks in style to their stand in Union Market. This location has a long bar, a high top community table and wall seating. The retro style makes it beautiful.
Food: It's pretty good! I usually order the "breakfast bandit" on a sesame bagel. It's perfectly filling without leaving you too stuffed. The garlic knots were a good appetizer.
Events: Watercolor and cocktails classes are offered to all who want a unique D.C. experience. It makes for a...
This is a cute, welcoming spot just a short walk from Union Station. They have indoor and outdoor seating and an ordering kiosk, or you can order at the counter. The staff was very friendly. Prices are reasonable and there are lots of interesting food and drink choices on the menu. We had a hard time deciding. The knish was really good. The bagels were delicious! The Rude Girl sandwich on a bagel with jalapeño cream cheese was good, but the bacon was dry and overcooked, and there was a lot of it, so I had to pull some of it off. The pineapple cardamom soda was not fizzy, nor did it taste of cardamom, so I don't think it was made right. The lavender taro tea was outstanding, we ordered it on both of our visits. The Original sandwich on a bagel with Gravlax was delicious and so big we had to take half of it home. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and came back a second time during...
